Hello there dear reader,
My name is Ark, I feel it is necessary to let you know a little bit of a background information before you get into this book.
So, this story is based on a Roleplay character I used to use back in high school, his original name was Shadows (now goes by Shane), he was a representation of all of my inner feelings and struggles during the time. He was meant to be a way for me to talk about everything I was suffering from at the time from death, bullying, depression, insomnia, parental divorce, a secret relationship to undiagnosed autism.
I was a nerd first and foremost; I always have been. I found comfort in fantasy worlds where i wasn't myself, i could be somebody else and nobody would judge me. I could talk to like-minded people while listening to music from the comfort of my bedroom. As Shadows I could openly talk about Dungeons and Dragons and the various card games I played as well as my interest in cooking and metal music, where I lived you were bullied for being interested in nerdy things not to mention the disapproval of some of my family in my ideas of trying to get into the more competitive side of them.
But Shadows was my saving grace, he was everything i wanted to be: alone, with no financial issues and could express himself as he pleased, i gave him a dark backstory to better explain away my depression as battles to other people.
I hope in this story/ book you can also find some form of solace or comfort in knowing you are not alone and the grass really can be greener on the other side once you make it there, take it from me; I got out alive and can play games and nobody can judge me, i can blast my music or even carry my interests with me wherever I go.
Good luck kid you got this,
~ Ark
