WHEN HOUSE EVANDER WAS FOUNDED, Aegon I Targaryen gifted Ryman Evander a Valyrian steel sword, Harbringer. The conquerors never burned a blade of the Black Hills for they knew a simple truth, House Evander would not fall.

One-hundred-and-seven years later, the entirety of this mighty house lay in the blood of one daughter and her sickly father, but she is not yet eager to die. The lesser houses, however, are fierce in their claims to have Harbringer at their belt and the Black Hills under their boots. Four years before Rhaenyra Targaryen is named heir, Rosamund Evander is surpassed as Lord of the Black Hills. Instead, the vote left the great house to her husband, believing the girl unable to rule.

Rosamund does not take her loss easy and in return she is dubbed the Whore of Swords because of inability to give up Harbringer to her Lord Husband. Rosamund has two children in the span of two years and vows to never touch him again. Her martial duties fulfilled, she spends her days in court making enemies out of everyone her husband considers an ally and outwardly defending the claim of her close companion Rhaenyra.

Amarei, the eldest of Rosamund's children, is known as a gentle soul across the realm. Beloved for her stark contrast to her stubborn mother, her father receives marriage proposals from high lords all across Westeros. Rosamund, however, denies her hand time and time again, refusing for her only daughter to suffer the same fate as her. Amarei has a childhood of security and a promise to marry of her accord.

Despite her mother's protection, Amarei and Rosamund rarely speak outside of necessity. A silent resentment lies between them. Amarei is the picture of everything Rosamund could not be. The young girl instead finds comfort in the effortless motherhood of Rhaenyra Targaryen, who had wished for a daughter her entire life.

Unlike Amarei, the young heir of the Black Hills, Aeron, is ever as fierce as his mother. The two remain close, while Amarei finds herself left to her father, whose love comes with a price. Aeron is sure he would die for his elder sister and yet they cannot seem to agree on almost anything. Strangely enough, the common string that unites the two siblings is the Prince Jacaerys.

Raised alongside the Velaryon children, Amarei and Aeron spent most all of their early childhood with Jacaerys and Lucerys. The children become passionately loyal to one another--defending one another from the harsh words of Alicent's children. Even when the young princes leave King's Landing, Jacaerys and Amarei exchange ravens and never quite leave each other's minds.

Upon the Princess' return to King's Landing to defend her claim, the Princess comes to Amarei's side and asks the girl to marry Jacaerys in order to hold the support of the Black Hills. Rosamund is steadfast in her resolve to keep her daughter away from the horrors of marriage she faced far too young. Although her daughter begs for her blessing, Rhaenyra and Jacaerys leave King's Landing and eagerly await a raven with the Lady Evander's decision.
