I was never a big fan of the hot and uncomfortable summers but I always loved the vacationing part of it where me, dad and my older sister would go on a vacation after the end of the school year. This vacation wasn't too different from the vacations in the past but I was mainly looking forward to going home and finally getting to be back in my room, after all there isn't much privacy when you're cramped in one hotel room with the rest of the family. After the long drive home the sun had already began setting and my dad and sister had went inside pretty tired from switching between both of them driving for what was an eight hour drive.
Normally I probably would've joined both of them and decided to go to bed early but I had fallen asleep during the car ride and I wasn't that tired so I snuck down the hall and outside my dads room as I waited to hear him snoring. After I could faintly hear the snoring of my father I slowly opened the door to his bedroom causing it to creak loudly as i opened it before I snuck over to his bedside nightstand and just as I was about to grab his keys I heard someone faintly whisper my name "Alice..".
I shivered like a cold wind had gone through my body as it creeped me out, I thought I might be imagining things because i didn't see anyone and I still was waking up from sleeping in the car so I quickly snatched the keys off the nightstand and slowly closed my dads door as I slipped out of the room and into the hallway. Once I had the car keys I was confident that my dad would've stayed asleep so I stopped sneaking around as I made my way towards the front door and took a quick peak outside and at the sky, the sun was almost completely set and there was barely any light left outside.
I wasn't really worried about the fleeting moments of light as I was only doing this to get my phone back from my backpack as I accidentally forgot I packed it with the rest of my belongings so I ended up just sleeping for the entire ride. Anyways I unlocked the front door and closed it behind me as I walked over to the car and unlocked the trunk where after a bit of struggle with the luggage I'd manage to find my bag and take it out, where then I'd find my phone at the top of my backpack as I took it out and tried seeing if it would work just to find out it was dead.
Since my phone was dead I decided to fish around in my backpack until I ended up feeling the cord and brick for my phone charger as I took it out and stuffed it in my pocket I made sure to zip up my backpack and put it back with the rest of our luggage before I closed the trunk and locked the car. Once I was done with the car I made sure to come back inside and locking the door behind me before I heard a voice that sounded right next to my ear whisper my name again "Alice.." this time I knew I wasn't hearing things but even as I frantically turned to look at where I thought the voice had come from there was nothing, it was just me alone in the kitchen.
Not intending to stay around and figure out who or what that was I quickly ran off to my room and closed the door behind me and locked the door as I frantically searched for an outlet where I could plug my phone into, right as I was about to plug my phone into my charger that's when I began to hear a knock coming from somewhere in the house. After hearing the first knock I thought I might be hearing things but that was until I heard a second knock and eventually even a third knock, my entire body was shivering with fear but I quickly chided myself after all it was just knocking surely it was our neighbor or someone looking for directions.
I would sigh as I slightly cracked open the door to my bedroom to look down the hallway to the left and right but I would be met with darkness as I started to creep down the hallway to the left and back to the kitchen from where the knocking was coming from. I would now be standing in front of the back door to my house with my hand around the door knob but that's when I noticed that the knocking was coming from the left of me which is where the door to the basement was.
I was practically rooted to the spot with fear imagining all sorts of monsters or things that could be in our basement but I tried convincing myself that it was probably just an animal so I put my hand on the door and opened it all the way. I looked down the staircase and I would barely manage to make out the figure of a seven foot tall person that was standing right in front of me, the person was pitch black, so much so that I could see the basement staircase and behind them clearer than themselves.
I forced myself to look up at their face terrified it would be the jaws of some beast but instead I was met with two bright eyes staring down at me as I tried to scream for my dad or sister to help but not a single noise would come out of my mouth. Terrified by this strange person in my house I sprinted down the hallway and bursted through my dads door as I shook him awake and frantically tried to tell him what happened but no matter how much I tried to speak nothing would come out.
My dad almost looked angry at me for waking him up but that's when I heard a faint whisper in the distance "Help Me". That was the sound of my voice but i didn't say that and that's when my dad himself looked at me with a face of pure terror in his eyes, almost as if he knew who or what said that.
