Chapter 3

"What's the situation?"

Wearing a shirt and a crimson military uniform hanging from her shoulders like a cloak, a young girl with red hair tied into twin-tails entered the bridge of a ship with a serious look on her face.

"Commander!"

A blonde man who was waiting beside the captain's seat at the very center gave an energetic salute as he faced the girl.

The girl that had been called 'Commander' only gave him a glance, before stomping on his foot.

"Oww!"

"I don't want your greeting, I want to know what's happening down there."

She sat down in the captain's seat, ignoring how the man went from having tears in his eyes to being downright ecstatic, before doing as he was told.

"Yes, Commander. The attack started as soon as the 'Spirit' appeared."

"The AST is already there?"

"It would seem so."

Another member of the crew spoke up, who was watching a live feed of the ongoing battle on the ground on his screen.

"-We have confirmed ten AST soldiers, Commander. At the moment we are following one, who is engaged in a battle at close range with the spirit."

"Show me the visuals."

At the commander's word, real-time footage showed up on the bridge's large monitor.

On a wide road around two blocks from downtown, two girls fighting using huge weapons were shown.

Every time their weapons clashed, bursts of light escaped, sparks flew, the ground cracked, and nearby buildings collapsed.

It was hard to imagine that this scene was happening in real time.

The commander crossed her legs together and leaned her head against her fist while she watched the footage.

Her eyes fell on the white-haired individual who was fighting against the spirit, someone whom she was very familiar with.

"Origami is pretty good. But, well, with a Spirit as an opponent she likely won't be able to do much. I hope she keeps herself alive and nothing bad happens to her, because she could end up as a potential asset in the future."

"A member of the AST defecting in order to be a part of our organization? You think it's possible for that to even happen, Commander?"

"Commander, forgive me if I'm speaking out of turn, but are you not putting too much faith in the relationship you have with that soldier? If push comes to shove, she will have to make a choice on where her loyalties lie."

"I have to agree with them, Commander. You know what she is and who she's working for, but the same cannot be said for her. What if she finds out and does not take the news lightly?"

A few of the crew members sent a curious look at the commander, finding it highly unlikely that someone fighting for their opposition would switch sides out of nowhere.

The red-haired commander was unbothered by those questions and, if one were to look closer, she was even amused by them.

"I just prefer to have my eyes wide open when it comes to potential allies, as is the rest of our organization. There's no need to think of her as a threat when she has not done anything to us."

The blonde man, who looked to be a high-ranking military officer, approached the commander while keeping his eyes on the main monitor.

"Here I thought your brother was the one that that girl is close with, Commander. You're making it seem like you also share a close relationship with this AST soldier."
