Chapter 9: The Chamber of Secrets

In Lockhart's classroom

As the team hurried towards Lockhart's office, Harry spoke up, "Lockhart may be useless, but he's going to try and get into the Chamber. At least we can tell him what we know!"

Bursting into the room, Harry said, "Professor, we have some information for you."

They stopped short, seeing Lockhart hastily packing his bags.

Oliver, now in his Arrow suit, asked, "Are you going somewhere?"

Lockhart stammered, "Uh, well, yes. Um... Urgent call. Unavoidable, uh... Got to go."

Ron stepped forward, his voice tense. "What about my sister?"

Lockhart replied, "Well... um... As to that, most unfortunate. No one regrets more than I."

Ron's frustration bubbled over. "You're the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. You can't go now."

Lockhart, flustered, responded, "Well, I must say, when I took the job, there was nothing in the job description about--"

Bella interrupted, her eyes narrowing. "You're running away? After all that stuff you wrote in your books?"

Lockhart sighed, "Books can be misleading."

Barry, incredulous, said, "You wrote them!"

Lockhart, with a weak smile, said, "My dear children, do use your common sense! My books wouldn't have sold half as well if people didn't think I'd done all those things!"

Oliver, his voice filled with disdain, said, "You're a fraud. You've been taking credit for what other wizards have done."

Ron asked, desperation in his voice, "Is there anything you can do?"

Lockhart's expression turned cunning. "Yes. Now you mention it, I'm rather gifted with memory charms. Otherwise, you see, all those wizards would have gone blabbing, and I'd never have sold another book. In fact, uh... I'm going to have to do the same to you."

Instantly, the team pointed their wands at Lockhart, and Oliver aimed his bow, the tension in the room palpable.
