It's not uncommon for demigods to never return home. It's almost expected. So why does the disappearance of Kairos Ashwood make Chiron feel so uneasy?
Kairos was a child of Hecate and a newer camper at Camp Half-Blood. Chiron seemed to only remember insignificant details about the girl. She liked to stay around the campfire long after the sing-alongs and she would sleep outside of her cabin, unlike her siblings. She never said anything, nor had any friends. She almost reminded him of the son of Hades, Nico di Angelo. Even that boy had begun to lose his sharp edges, opening up more around his peers. This girl was as distant as Hades was to Olympus.
Stranger still, when Chiron asked around, most campers insisted they had never seen Kairos. Not even her siblings remembered her presence at the dining table. It was as if she had been erased from their memories. Could it be the work of Hecate's magic—something that cloaked her in shadows, hiding her even from those who should have known her best? Even if nobody remembered her, the centaur felt this child was important and powerful, something different from her kinfolk. That feeling grew to worry. What if she was dangerous?
Chiron sent search parties of dryads, satyrs, naiads, and demigods, but they found no trace of Kairos herself. What they did discover—polished crystals shaped like skulls, bundles of sage, and an eerie book titled Witchcraft and Makescraft: Guide to Dimensions—only deepened the mystery. Growing desperate, Chiron considered consulting the ancient texts in the Big House, searching for any mention of demigods vanishing without a trace. Or perhaps he needed to appeal to the gods, even Hecate herself.
It had been two months since Chiron had last seen her. The file under her name in his office was the only way to identify her and ensure her existence. The camp activities director didn't think this was a plan of anything evil like Kronos or Gaea. No, this was something entirely different. These thoughts kept him awake even on his dreariest nights.
He needed to find this girl and make sure she was okay and nothing had happened to her. She was his camper, his responsibility. But how could he find an untraceable child, especially one with the magic of Hecate flowing through her veins?
Chiron glanced over her file again and again, hoping to find something that would lead him to her. He decided to call upon some of his most powerful and trustworthy demigods to help him. One was with Lady Artemis, another in a college dorm, but one was in the cabin farthest from him.The centaur hoped Nico di Angelo wouldn't mind a visit.
