chapter one: prologue

July 1958

It's been a month since I live in Castle Rock with my grandparents, I miss California even though it's a good place here, but it's not a good time for my grandparents since my grandfather's heart disease is getting worse and he can't work and so my grandmother works 2 jobs to support us, it was a July day when I was at the Blue Point Diner where my grandmother worked together with Mrs Tupper, I didn't have any friends there, and I was wasting half my summer by myself, so much so that a middle-aged man tells me he shouldn't be here alone but be with his friends playing, after my grandmother finishes her work shift and wants to go to the Lachance house, Even though I didn't want to decide to go with her and get to know Mr and Mrs Lachance and he tells me to go to his son's room who is the same age as me, I come in and see a guy my age brown hair, "Hi" I say, "Hi. Who are you?" he asks me, "I'm Thomas Dean, the nephew of my grandma Nancy Dean" i respond, "Oh cool" he says, i notice he is write something "Hey what are you writing?" i ask, "Nothing" he respond, "I'm don't judge i swear" i say, "You swear?" Gordie asked, "Yes, i swear" i told him without hesitation, "On your mother's name?" Gordie continued, "Yeah even she is in heaven now" i respond, "Oh sorry i didn't know.." Gordie says regreted, "Don't worry" i say then he give me the paper that he written, "Wow it's a beautiful story" i respond, "Thanks" he says and then his older brother Denny Lachance "Hi" he says to me, "I'm Thomas" i respond, "I'm Denny" he says with a smile "What you guys are doing?" he asked, Gordie shows the story he write to Denny, "It's beautiful" he says, "Thank you brother" Gordie responded, they have a beautiful sibling relationship then when Denny go out of Gordie's room, "Hey do you want come to the tree house?" he asked, "Yes" we go out of Gordie's home and arrive and go inside at the tree house, "This is awesome" i say shocked, "This is the place i stay with my friends Chris, Teddy and Vern" he says sitting, "I don't know who they are" i respond but suddenly we hear three voices, "They are here" Gordie says i was a bit in anxiety to know new people and they come inside, "Hi i'm Thomas" i say to a boy with a buzzcut blonde hair, "Hi, i'm Chris Chambers" he says, "Hi, I'm Teddy Duchump" a blonde guy with glasses says to me, "What did you have in the ear?" i ask, "My father do it to me when i was little" he responded, "Hi, i'm Vern Tassio" a boy a little overweight says and we stay at the tree house i talk to them about my old life and so many things, and later they play with cards "Thomas you want to play?" Chris asked, "I don't know how" i respond, "We can teach you how to play" he says and we play the whole afternoon, we have a lot of fun and laughing i officially become in their group, it was almost evening and i forgot that my grandmother was still at Lachance's house and presumely go home "Guys i have to go now" i say, "You have to go already?" Teddy says, "Yes" i respond, "Hey Thomas you're still here tomorrow to play cards again?" Chris asked, "Yeah see you tomorrow" i say happy that finally after one month here i get new friends, i return home but my grandmother isn't angry she is happy that i start to smile more after we go at the Lachance's family.
