Lana got into the car, closed the door, and let out a long, exhausted sigh. 'Phew! Finally, I completed my mission,' she thought, feeling a sense of relief wash over her.
However, her relief was short-lived as she felt a pair of intense eyes on her. Looking out the window, she saw her best friend Chloe's accusing glare. Lana quickly got out of her car and ran over, hugging Chole tightly before suddenly slapping her on the back.
"Ah! Yah! Why did you hit me?" Lana exclaimed, rubbing her back in pain, her eyes wide with shock.
"Hit you? You disappear for days and ask why I'm hitting you? I'm going to beat the crap out of you!" Chloe shouted, her voice a mix of anger and concern as she landed another playful, yet forceful, slap on Lana's shoulder.
Lana yelped and immediately kicked off her heels, sprinting down the street with Chloe hot on her heels, yelling after her. "Get back here, Lana Foster!"
They ran for two streets before finally stopping, panting and gasping for air. Lana turned to see Chloe bent over, hands on her knees, trying to catch her breath. Before Chloe could speak, Lana's phone rang. It was Jax.
"Hello?" she answered, trying to steady her breathing.
"Where do you think you can run off to?!" Jax's furious voice boomed through the phone, making Lana wince.
"Can you give me one hour, please?" Lana pleaded, glancing at Chloe, who was now watching her with a mix of curiosity and concern.
"No," Jax replied, his tone icy.
"Ah, come on! I did everything you asked, and I almost crashed into a car. Can't you give me just this one hour? I promise I'll explain everything later," Lana begged, desperation creeping into her voice.
There was a moment of silence from the other side.
"CRASHING YOURSELF INTO A CAR?!!" Chloe shouted in disbelief, her eyes widening as she overheard Lana's words. Lana quickly shushed her, mouthing, "I'll explain later."
"Pretty pleaseeeee," Lana said, dragging the letter 'e' as she put on her best pleading voice.
"Ok, fine, but come back in one hour," Jax ordered, his voice begrudgingly softening.
"Thank you, muah!" Lana said, kissing the phone and ending the call without thinking. She didn't see the deep red blush that spread across Jax's face on the other end.
"LANA FOSTER, you better give me an explanation," Chloe demanded, her voice dark and stern, eyes narrowing at Lana.
"I will, I promise. Let's go into this café first," Lana said, pointing to a cozy-looking café on the corner. Chloe gave her a wary look but nodded, and they both headed inside.
As they settled into a booth, Chloe folded her arms, leaning forward. "Start talking, Lana. What the hell have you been up to?"
Lana took a deep breath, preparing herself to spill everything. "Okay, so what happened was..."
---------------------> After 45 minutes
"Oh my god! How did you get caught up in this mess?" Chloe asked, her eyes wide with disbelief as she absorbed Lana's story. They were seated in a cozy corner of the café, the hum of conversation around them providing a comforting background noise.
"It just... happened," Lana said, her voice a mix of resignation and frustration. She stirred her coffee absently, watching the ripples form.
"But it's better now," Lana added, trying to sound optimistic, though her eyes betrayed her uncertainty.
