Chapter One

Destiny sat alone in her cozy but cluttered apartment, a whirlwind of emotions swirling inside her. The past few weeks had been a blur of changes and inexplicable fatigue. She tried to brush off the symptoms as stress from work and the pressure of maintaining her relationship with one of the NRL's brightest stars, Patrick "Patty" Carrigan. But as days turned into weeks and her period never came, she knew she had to face the possibility that something significant was happening.
Today, the uncertainty ended. Destiny held a pregnancy test in her trembling hands, the minutes dragging on like hours as she waited for the result. She stared at the bathroom mirror, her reflection pale and anxious. The silence was deafening, broken only by the distant hum of traffic outside.
A faint beep from her phone timer startled her. It was time. Destiny closed her eyes for a moment, gathering every ounce of courage, before looking down at the test.
Positive.
Her breath caught in her throat, her heart pounding so loudly she feared it might burst. The reality of the situation hit her like a tidal wave, leaving her disoriented. Pregnant. She was pregnant. And the father was none other than Patty Carrigan, the star forward for the Brisbane Broncos.
They had met at a charity gala, where Destiny had been working as a coordinator. Their chemistry had been undeniable, a magnetic pull that neither could resist. What started as a whirlwind romance quickly turned into something deeper. But now, standing in her bathroom with a positive pregnancy test, Destiny realized just how much everything was about to change.
She sank onto the edge of the bathtub, her mind racing. How would Patty react? Their relationship was still new, and his career was at its peak. She knew this news would shake his world as much as it had hers. With shaking hands, she reached for her phone and typed out a message.
"Hey Patty, can we talk? It's important."
She hit send, her stomach churning with anxiety. The minutes stretched into an eternity as she waited for his response, each second amplifying her fears. Finally, her phone buzzed.
"Sure, Destiny. What's up?"
Her fingers trembled as she typed back. "Can you come over? I need to tell you something in person."
Patty's reply was swift. "I'll be there in an hour."
Destiny spent the next sixty minutes in a state of frenzied preparation, trying to distract herself with cleaning and organizing. She replayed their relationship in her mind, from their first meeting to their most recent date, searching for clues as to how he might react. She knew he cared about her deeply, but this was different. This was life-changing.
