the new apartment
july 17, 8:38 am

you grunted as dropped the last box of your personal items in the living room, panting and out of breath.

today was finally moving day, and you were utterly exhausted.

spending your first two years of college at home was just something you'd probably regret for the rest of your life.

finding an apartment was hard, and finding a roommate was even harder.

luckily, someone had posted a 'looking for roommate' flyer and you were accepted.

it was conveniently placed ten minutes from the school and a good six minute walk to the nearest convenience store.

"coming through princess, watch out!" a voice called behind you, a box sliding against the floor catching your attention.

it was also not too far from your best friend's place, onyankopon brown.

you watch as he slides the box right into your new bedroom next to the window.

it isn't too long until you see him stepping out of it dusting his hands off and sighing.

"where's the roommate? wanna meet em." onyankopon questions, looking around every corner.

your phone buzzes a few times and you dig in your pocket for it, squinting in slight confusion.

dad.
heard you got your own place
congrats!!

mom.
proud of you honey, invite us over soon, okay?

onyankopon glances at you and clears his throat, catching your attention once more. you look up from your phone and sniffle a bit.

you shrug, placing your phone down onto the little island separating the kitchen from the living room.

"don't know yanni. totally didn't walk in with you." you rolled your eyes, having a seat on the bar stool and stretching your legs.

onyankopon gave you the middle finger, taking a seat beside you and taking in both yours and his surroundings.

the house was already beautifully decorated, only thing throwing it off was the half empty picture frames hanging around.

however, just by looking around and the smell of coffee in the air, no one has been in the apartment since morning.

the living room had a window that started from the floor and ended at the ceiling, beige blinds with brown leaves covering it halfway to let the sun shine in.

the couch was a comfortable gray L-shape, extra cushions protected inside the shelf under the tv. you assumed it was one of those couches you turn into a bed.

and the kitchen was neat. a big space with an electric stove that smelt like lemons. you guess it was wiped down with the lemon scented clorox before you came in.
