CHAPTER 01:

WHAT HAPPENED TO LADY SERENE

---*---

-Perez Household: Heart of Mahika-
"Companion?"

Young Lady Sakura stared at her mother with a mix of confused and shocked expression. As they leisurely walked the street of only clothing stores, Young Lady Sakura went closer to her mother.

"Yes," the mother, Lady Rosalinda, nodded with a wide grin. "You see, he is my friend's son."

They entered one of the clothing stores while Young Lady Sakura began to busy herself with the dresses hanging on the rack.

"Well, I suppose, you should meet my friends first before meeting their sons."

Young Lady Sakura groaned while hitting her face, thinking that her mother was attempting to pick her future groom.

"No... I won't be meeting anyone," she shoved a dress towards her mother, still grinning on the idea she proposed.

Young Lady Sakura then gazed at the window while subconsciously grabbing a dress. Seeing how women wore dresses and fancy attires made her quite surprised. It was as if they were going to a fashion show.

'Mahika... did I pronounce that right?'

Young Lady Sakura thought to herself, looking back to her mother who kept rambling about her meeting those friends and sons.

'Mahika...'

Mahika, a land that was said to be a refuge and haven of those who wanted peace during the civil and world wars. As of today, it is indeed a peaceful land with people appearing like high-class paintings.

"Everyone is pretty..." Young Lady Sakura talked to herself while picking a red dress. "Mother, can I get this?"

"Go ahead!" Lady Rosalinda quickly responded, having a sales lady attend them. "Wanna grab desserts next?"

Young Lady Sakura arched her brow, perplexed by her mother's actions and words. She pointed to an open coach, revealing boxes and bags of clothes and shoes.

"Didn't we already buy... uh... many?"

Lady Rosalinda, nonetheless, chuckled and shrugged. Another vehicle pulled over, a carriage with a closed roof.

"Plenty, dear," she corrected as she entered the carriage with the coachman opening the door for her. "Just keep talking in our language and you'll get used to it."

"I... dislike this."

Young Lady Sakura grumbled, only to receive another language lecture from her mother.

"You mean 'hate'?"

"I got it, mother..." Young Lady Sakura sighed, entering the carriage.

As their vehicle moved at an average pace, Young Lady Sakura glanced at the window to see children playing and tagging with their parents. It was too peaceful for her that she began to feel uneasy. The calm before the storm.

"About the companion thing, what do they do?"

Young Lady Sakura looked at her mother, curious yet partly annoyed. Her mother perked up with a teasing grin, humming while opening a book.

"Mmm... For Youngs, we call them companions. It's like a playmate."

"What? Am I not that old to play?"
