Prologue

When Heeseung first saw Jake, all he could think was that Jake is someone who can thrive in the music industry. He's naturally smiley, naturally good-looking, and he's fluent in english. His vocal range is good, and the slight accent made it unique and addictive.

His personality is a bonus. Funny, carefree. He's competitive and pouty, but playful and humble. The way he interacts with the other members is proof of his good heart. Doing things for them, with them. Making sure the older members don't stress too much while reminding the younger ones that it's okay to have fun and act their age.

Jake was perfect from the very beginning.

Hardworking. Passionate. Charismatic.

Heeseung was almost jealous. Yes, he was known as the "ace"; known for being good at everything he tried, but Jake was just... different. When Heeseung made a mistake, he felt like the world might fall down around him; like his position within the group was so fragile.

When Jake made a mistake, he'd smile, take a few breaths, and try again.

Heeseung was mesmerized.

Jake is such a confident person, so sure of himself. Heeseung would just watch him practice sometimes. Would watch as he messed up the same move over and over, his eyebrows furrowing in concentration as he tried again. Over and over.

Jake isn't a quitter.

And when he got the move correct, he smiled brightly to himself, and did it once more. Just to show that he could.

Heeseung found himself smiling too.

Jake is that kind of person to celebrate small victories. The type to see the good in the worst moments. He'd smile during a storm because "everything needs water to survive". He's the glass half full kind of guy.

And Heeseung admires that.

So every time Jake tries again, every time he giggles and smiles and laughs, every time Jake clings to his arm or calls his name sweetly, every time Jake comforts him, whispering soft words in his ear...

...Heeseung falls for him a little more.
