Standing at her doorstep, Katie felt a sense of contentment and excitement for the future. "Tonight was perfect," she said softly.
Aiden smiled, his eyes warm and sincere. "It really was. I'm looking forward to more nights like this."
"Me too," Katie agreed, her heart full.
As Katie stood on her doorstep, a sudden breeze sent a shiver down her spine. Aiden noticed and looked concerned.
"It's pretty cold out here," he remarked. "Would you mind if I came in for a bit to warm up before heading back?"
Katie hesitated for a moment, but the warmth in Aiden's eyes and the comfort she felt around him made her nod. "Sure, come on in."
She unlocked the door and led him inside her cosy apartment. The warmth of the place was inviting, with soft lighting and photographs adorning the walls, showcasing her passion for photography.
"Your place is really nice," Aiden said, looking around appreciatively.
"Thanks," Katie replied, a bit shy. "Can I get you something to drink? Tea, coffee, maybe hot chocolate?"
"Hot chocolate sounds great," Aiden said with a smile.
Katie busied herself in the kitchen, and soon the rich aroma of hot chocolate filled the air. She brought two steaming mugs to the living room, where Aiden had made himself comfortable on the couch.
They sipped their drinks, the warmth seeping into their bones, and continued their conversation from the diner. The hours seemed to fly by as they talked about their lives, their passions, and their hopes for the future.
As the night grew later, Katie noticed Aiden stifling a yawn. "You must be exhausted after the game," she said softly. "You're welcome to stay here if you don't want to head back so late."
Aiden looked at her, his eyes grateful but cautious. "Are you sure? I don't want to impose."
Katie smiled, feeling a surge of affection. "I'm sure. Besides, it's nice having company."
"Okay, thank you," Aiden said, his relief evident.
Katie showed him to the guest room, where he could stay. "If you need anything, just let me know," she said.
"Thanks, Katie. Goodnight," Aiden replied, his voice warm.
"Goodnight, Aiden," Katie said, feeling a flutter of excitement.
As she settled into her own bed, Katie couldn't help but think about the unexpected turn her evening had taken. She felt a sense of happiness and anticipation for what the future might hold with Aiden. And as she drifted off to sleep, she couldn't wait to see what the next day would bring.
Over the next few weeks, Aiden and Katie found themselves growing closer, their bond deepening with each encounter. Aiden's visits to Katie's apartment became more frequent, often following his games or practice sessions. He found solace in her company, a peaceful respite from the chaotic world of professional hockey.
One evening, after an especially gruelling game, Aiden showed up at Katie's door, looking exhausted but happy. Katie welcomed him with a warm smile and a hug. "Rough game?" she asked, leading him inside.
"You could say that," Aiden replied with a tired chuckle. "But we won, so it was worth it."
Katie made them both hot chocolate, a tradition they had started on his first visit, and they settled onto the couch. As they sipped their drinks, Katie noticed Aiden's eyes drooping. "You look like you could use some rest," she said softly.
