Wedding ceremonies are loud. Everyone is happy. You can hear cries of joy and the music is defeating. I'm not a party person and for sure they tire me out. People tire me.
One such evening, when I was attending a distant uncle's wedding ceremony. I walked up the stairs to an empty terrace. The loud music had come to a stop a few minutes back and I was well aware of the fact that everyone was already asleep due to exhaustion of celebrating a lot. The stairs had two doors, one which was open and the other which I was curious about. I saw the door shut. As always, curiosity got the best of me and I opened it slowly.
It was a small area. I walked the narrow but short path to a bit wider area. I saw fairy lights. So, this was where they hanged them from? It was peaceful. The soft cold breeze blew across my face as though caressing my face with love and the starry sky along with the moon made my mind forget how tired I was almost immediately.
I walked over to the cot placed there and sat there relaxing and wondering about random things. Suddenly to my shock, I heard a honey-like voice. For a few seconds, I was too stunned to speak. The perfect melody that flowed out of this person's lips and the way he pronounced every word with such elegance made me forget the reality. I just sat there carefully letting every syllable and emotion be absorbed in my bloodstream. It was a sad song about one-sided love. My cheeks were cold because of the wind, which I just realized, got warmed because of the tears that flowed out of my eyes. And I realized that I was bottling up everything for a very long time.
His voice took a pause and my vocals, without my permission, continued with the lyrics till I finally sang the whole verse. I was good at singing too but not many knew about it.
As my voice came to a pause, I got up and faced him who was just behind me by now. Our terraces were almost touching. I smiled a bitter-sweet smile when I saw his shiny eyes.
I lifted my hand and wiped away his tears before holding his face in my hands. I looked into his eyes as though looking for an answer to my silent question. He nodded and I planted kisses on his eyes and then forehead before I parted away while my hands still stayed. He placed his hand over mine before pecking my palm which felt as though I just felt a flower petal brushing on my skin.
Who was he? I didn't know but I for sure knew that he had something different than the rest of the world that made my soul stay in peace. There was something among us that we didn't need words to talk with anymore. We didn't even share our names but this Petal Boy was already driving me crazy.
