Lan Xichen's eyes widened in shock as the doctor emerged from the delivery room. "Congratulations, you have twin babies. One is an omega and the other is an alpha, and he is sick."
Lan Xichen's mind reeled as he stumbled backward, his eyes fixed on the doctor. "Twins?! But...how?! I didn't know Cheng was carrying twins!"
The doctor's expression turned serious. "That's not all, Lan Xichen. The alpha baby is struggling. We need to get him to the NICU immediately."
Lan Xichen's heart raced as he followed the doctor to the NICU, his mind still reeling from the news. Twins?! And one of them was sick?!
As he entered the NICU, he saw Jiang Cheng lying weakly on the bed, his face pale and exhausted. Lan Xichen's heart skipped a beat as he rushed to his side.
"Cheng...I had no idea," Lan Xichen whispered, his voice trembling.
The doctor interrupted, "We need to focus on the babies now, but Jiang Cheng needs care too. He's weak and needs your support."
Lan Xichen nodded, still trying to process the shocking news. Twins. And one of them was fighting for their life. He took Jiang Cheng's hand, trying to offer what little comfort he could. But deep down, he knew their toxic relationship had just gotten even more complicated.
After some time, Jiang Cheng gets up and sees Lan Xichen. Lan Xichen was talking on the phone. Jiang Cheng touched his belly and saw the right side had a baby bed cot. Jiang Cheng gets up from bed, his eyes welling up with tears. He carried the baby and asked, "Where is the other baby?" He was crying, his voice shaking with fear and desperation.
Lan Xichen's expression changed from calm to shocked as he saw Jiang Cheng standing up, holding their baby and crying. He quickly ended the call and rushed to Jiang Cheng's side.
"Cheng, what are you doing? You need to rest," Lan Xichen said, trying to guide him back to bed.
But Jiang Cheng resisted, his eyes fixed on Lan Xichen with a mix of anger and fear. "Where is the other baby? Tell me! Where is my other baby?" he demanded, his voice rising.
Lan Xichen's face softened, and he hesitated before speaking. "Cheng, the other baby...he's in the NICU. He's not doing well, but the doctors are taking care of him."
Jiang Cheng's face contorted in pain, and he took a step back, as if Lan Xichen's words had physically pushed him away. "No...no...this can't be happening," he whispered, his voice cracking.
Lan Xichen's eyes filled with tears as he watched Jiang Cheng's world come crashing down. He knew he had to be strong for both of them, but it was getting harder by the minute.
Jiang Cheng's body shook with sobs as he clutched their baby tightly, his eyes pleading with Lan Xichen to tell him that it was all a mistake. But Lan Xichen's somber expression only confirmed his worst fears.
With a strangled cry, Jiang Cheng turned and stumbled out of the room, Lan Xichen close behind. They rushed through the hospital corridors, Jiang Cheng's tears blurring his vision as he desperately sought out his other baby.
As they burst into the NICU, Jiang Cheng's eyes scanned the rows of incubators, his heart racing with fear. And then, he saw him - their tiny, fragile baby, surrounded by wires and machines.
Jiang Cheng's sobs redoubled as he reached out a trembling hand, his eyes locked on their baby's delicate face. Lan Xichen's arms encircled him, holding him close as they both gazed upon their struggling child.
"We'll get through this, Cheng," Lan Xichen whispered, his voice cracking with emotion. "We'll get through this together."
Jiang Cheng's face lit up with joy as he cradled his alpha baby in his arms, his heart overflowing with love. Lan Xichen smiled, his eyes warm with happiness, before turning to leave.
"I have some work to do," he said, his voice low and husky. "I'll be back soon."
Jiang Cheng nodded, too absorbed in his baby to notice Lan Xichen's departure. But soon, the room was filled with the chatter of visitors.
Wei Ying and Lan Wangji, Jiang Cheng's brother and his boyfriend, entered the room, followed by Jiang Yanli and Jin Zixuan, Jiang Cheng's sister and her husband.
"Cheng, congratulations!" Wei Ying exclaimed, rushing to his side. "Your baby is adorable!"
Lan Wangji smiled, his eyes shining with warmth. "We're so happy for you, Cheng."
Jiang Yanli cooed over the baby, while Jin Zixuan teased Jiang Cheng about becoming a father. The room was filled with laughter and joy, a welcome respite from the turmoil of the past day.
As they chatted, Jiang Cheng couldn't help but glance at the door, wondering when Lan Xichen would return. He knew their relationship was complicated, but in this moment, surrounded by loved ones, he felt a sense of hope. Maybe, just maybe, they could make this work.
Lan Wangji's eyes met Jiang Cheng's, and he smiled knowingly. "Don't worry, Cheng. My brother will be back soon. He's just taking care of some things."
Jiang Cheng nodded, feeling a sense of gratitude towards Lan Wangji. He knew that Lan Xichen's family was complex, but Lan Wangji's kindness and support meant a lot to him.
As the visit continued, Jiang Cheng couldn't help but ask about Lan Xichen's whereabouts. Lan Wangji hesitated before answering, "He's dealing with some family matters, Cheng. But he'll be back soon, I promise."
Jiang Cheng's heart skipped a beat as he wondered what kind of family matters Lan Xichen was handling. He knew that Lan Xichen's family was powerful and influential, but he also knew that they didn't approve of their relationship.
Just then, the door opened, and Lan Xichen walked in, his expression serious. "Cheng, I'm back. And I have something important to discuss with you."
The room fell silent as Lan Xichen's eyes locked onto Jiang Cheng's, a mix of determination and worry in their depths. Jiang Cheng's heart raced as he wondered what was coming next.
