"Ruth remember no-" My mom begins, but I already know the rules.
"I know I know. No dating boys that go here no meeting boys that go here, no interacting with boys that go here blah blah blah." I interrupt.
"Ruth boys will only distract you from your studies, and if you want to take my spot when I retire you can't afford to let something as silly as a boy distract you from reaching that goal. Plus the boys here are not good influences, must I remind you this is a boarding school for troubled boys. They all came here for a reason." She says repeating the same endless lecture I always get whenever my mom feels I need a reminder.
"What if I don't want to replace you!" I say, interrupting my moms lecture. Truthfully I've never wanted to take my moms spot, but it's always been "the only option" since I am her only child. I have always wanted to be a professional dancer. I take many classes a week, more than my mom allows me. I usually have to sneak out while I am supposed to be studying to make it to all my classes, but I don't mind plus my mom is always to busy to notice except for this time.
"Honey it is the only choice. I would never trust anyone with my great-great-grandmother's school other than you and you know that. Ruth, if I catch you sneaking out one more time I am cancelling all your dance classes and that's final. End of discussion." She says storming out of my room.
"Why do you always have to treat me like one of your students!" I scream after her then shut the door and lock the latch.
I quickly gather up my stuff, which is what I was doing when my mom caught me, and slip out the window. I climb down the rusty ladder and manage to make it down to the grown safely, as usual. I slip down the side of the school ducking when I pass by a window, and I reach the street in record time. I turn left and begin my daily 4 mile run to dance.
