You had been lounging under a tree doing a whole lot of nothing but enjoying the sun and watching the clouds for the better part of an hour. Today was an absolutely gorgeous day, with just the right amount of heat, wind, sun, and shade. But all that lazing about had made you antsy so you hopped up, brushed the dirt from your trousers, and made to trounce on down the path in front of you.
That's when a deep, commanding voice called out, "Don't move." You froze, of course, [e/c] orbs wide in alarm, hands freezing In front of your face where you had just been brushing your [h/c] hair away. As suddenly as he had spoken, Shino Aburame was in front of you, looking every ounce the intimidating shinobi you thought him to be. Equally without warning, he began to each out toward you and you couldn't stall the thoughts that if he wanted to kill you he could do so, and with ease. He was a powerful shinobi, and a scary one at that! What could a civilian girl like you do?!
Just as you were about to squeak out a terrified, "Don't hurt me!" he withdrew his hand, cradling something in his fingers. You blinked dumbly at him, curiosity quashing the irrational fears of a moment ago.
"It appears that this was trying to make a home in your hair," Shino opened his palm to show you a thumb-length, thick black centipede. And although Shino most likely expected you to scream upon seeing it, or even run away like many of his female comrades, you simply smiled down and it instead.
"Oh hey little guy." You reached a [s/c] finger down, prodding Shino's palm lightly and allowing the insect to crawl onto you with a giggle. "Were you trying to nest in my hair? You silly little thing."
You didn't see the startled look Shino was giving you because you were far too busy cooing over the centipede. But you did look up when he asked, bewildered, "You're not frightened of insects?"
"Nah, my family owns a large insect farm. Uh, not as large as your family's of course. But I was probably just sitting under this little fella's tree." Your smile was bright as you held your hand up to said tree's bark and tenderly scooched the segmented creepy-crawlie onto it. "He just got curious because I'm warm and probably got tangled in my hair." You dusted your hands off on your [f/c] pants and smiled again, feeling much more at ease around the young man after having the ice forcibly broken by a little insect friend.
He regarded you for a silent moment, expression as unreadable as ever due to his high collar and impossibly dark shades. You waited patiently, hands clasped messily behind your back, bouncing on the balls of your feet. You were starting to get antsy again and just wanted to go-go-go!
"Shino-san!" His only acknowledgement was the glint of sun off his glasses as he shifted his weight. "I was about to go on a walk. You should come with me! We can compare out families' insect farms!" You knew the Aburame Clan had a much larger, much more prolific insect sanctuary than the [l/n] Clan, but insects had always been a passion of yours. And well, not many people wanted to talk bugs with you, even as a child. Definitely not the girls, and often, boys found you strange for your love of insects.
Shino didn't say anything to you, didn't acknowledge that you'd offered to talk. But he did take a few steps down the dirt path in front of you, stopped to look back and wait. Upon seeing the gesture you quickly hopped to, beaming widely and ready to chat the teen up.
"So I heard you guys are the only ones who have successfully hatched the Bikochu..."
