The wind whistled past his ears, his feet sore and scarred as he sped through the jungle of alleyways in the old city. His breath was thick, his mouth dry as footsteps grew louder and louder, he thought he’d gotten the better of them as the footsteps disappeared but just before he celebrated another victory. An arrow shot past his head missing him by a hair. He swallowed, not daring to turn around at what he was sure to be his end.
“Kid..give up running there's no use”
He was silent, he wouldn't move, he wouldn't answer. He wouldn't give them anything they wanted.
“If you ignore me I’ll have to take more extreme measures..I won't miss this time so speak”
A moment of silence was met by the raspy and dry voice of a young boy
“I don't want to go with you…I’m fine out here..”
He snarled at the guard
“Not my choice. Just my job now cooperate..you're merely dirt underneath my boot..I'm not reasoning with you”
He said in a cold emotionless tone..just like the rest of them
“NO! I’M NOT GOING WITH YOU SHELLS!”
He snapped before an arrow swiftly moved through the air plunging straight into his leg, his fragile body wreathing with pain..it hurt too much and he slowly..slowly….passed out.
{11 years later}
“Boys stand!”
A guard commanded with a string booming voice
“Today is what you've been working towards since you got here...we took you in and gave you a home now you'll repay us with the duty of protecting the city…”
The group of boys all aged 18 stood up from their beds listening to the guard, it was true they’d all been taken in by the emperor himself chosen to protect the city all coming from a 0world they didn't understand, a world that had been cruel to them...well that's what they were told at least and they trusted it how couldn't they the emperor had shown them trust and respect when the unforgiving outside hadn't. They'd all been hospitalised after a grave incident, they'd been told it wasn't to be spoken about or even mentioned. That wasn't an issue as most of the boys here didn't even remember their lives before the incident...
