Jay wakes up in a jump scare. Tobey, who was already awake, was preparing a salad with some berries he had found in a bush near their cave. Tobey noticed that Jay had woken up, but he looked startled and sweaty.
"You good?" he asked.
Jay breathes heavily.
"Hey..."
Tobey stops what he is doing and approaches Jay. He sits next to him and slides his hand on his shoulder.
"Look at me."
Jay refuses eye contact. He is nervous and stressed.
"Hey. It's ok, you can tell me."
Jay finally lets go of the stress and looks at Tobey. Tobey gives him a smile. Jay really want to tell him, but he doesn't want to have to lie to him either.
Jay gives him a vague answer: "It's nothing, just a dream."
"Jay?" Tobey raises an eyebrow.
"Ok fine... My dream was about..." Jay hesitates.
"About what?"
"Wait... I FORGOT!" Jay starts tearing up.
Tobey wraps an arm around him, like a hug.
"I KNEW IT! I HAD IT! NOW THE DREAM IS GONE!" Jay cries.
"Let me tell you something." Tobey tries to change the subject.
"What is it?" Jay stops crying and starts wiping of his tears from his face.
"My real name is not Tobey."
"W-what?"
"My real name is Marlin Everoon."
"You lied???"
"No. I changed it."
"W-why?"
Tobey pauses.
"It reminds me of my older sister."
"What? What did she do?"
"She was my best friend. She was my parent, my only family. When I turned 14, The administration decided she was not fit for the job, so they executed her. For that, I don not forgive my home, The Administration. This name reminds me the last name we shared, even if it's the only thing I have left of her, I rather protect it in the back of my mind."
"I- had no idea..."
"I don't tell this to people. You are the first one that knows I am related to her, Rose Everoon."
"B-but... The Administration- Wha- Why would they DO such a thing!"
"I tried to escape, but agents like us cannot."
"THEY ARE SO CRUEL FOR THAT!"
"I know... The Administration is not what it seems it is. But now that I have you, we can try to get higher ranks and finally quit our jobs!" Tobey started to get excited.
"I-I don't know... I mean quit? I have nowhere else to go."
"Me neither! But we can figure it out together as we go! But first we need to move up ranks."
"I-I'm not sure..."
"Wow. ok." Tobey calms down, he looked a bit sad.
"I thought you would understand."
Tobey get up and continues what he was doing.
