I just got out of my car after sending Theo to school. As I shut the lever down to shut the garage door, my phone rang with a notification from Rio.
I furrowed my brow as I opened the message. Too lazy to text back, I decided to call him instead.
"What's the problem?"
"I'm sorry to disturb your time, miss. The gang once again requested your presence." He sounds uncertain, but I know he would. I already made it clear that I won't deal with any problems, at least for this month, because I want to focus on Theo. It seems my command fell on deaf ears.
I scoffed as I started walking to the front door. I twisted the door open and got inside before closing the door behind me. I simply tossed the car key on the table. "Are my orders not clear enough? What kind of idiots are they?" I tried to keep my voice calm, as I know my house is not all by myself but occupied with others too.
As I walked past the living room, like usual, Soap and Gaz were playing between themselves while Ghost, Price, and Laswell were nowhere to be seen. I give them a curt nod before I walk to the kitchen. "I don't want to hear any excuses, Rio. You deal with those bastards, or I'll deal with you myself."
"Yes, miss."
"I don't need that. I don't care if you're my right-hand man, if you don't do your fucking job properly, just so you know." Without waiting for his reply, I hang up the call as I almost slammed my phone on the kitchen counter. If only I hadn't stopped myself mid-air when I remembered there were lots of Theo's photos in there.
I let out a deep breath as I ran my hand through my hair. Frustrated. What the fuck is wrong with him?
I moved to make myself a coffee, but then I heard someone come near me. As I looked up at the person, it was only Soap. "You look angry, lass." He said while opening the fridge to my right.
"Life is hard. Some idiots don't even know what to do with a simple job." I let out a dry chuckle as I opened the cabinet above me to grab a mug.
"You shouldn't let them get on your nerves." MacTavish shrugs as he takes out a leftover pizza from the fridge and closes it after.
"I wish." I flatly replied as I started to heat up water for my coffee.
"Join us if you have time. We would like to know you better." He gave me a sweet smile before he messed with my hair, then quickly ran away from the kitchen, holding the box of pizza in hand.
I rolled my eyes at his action. He really is a touchy person. I learned that fast ever since he patted Theo. But strangely, none of us hate it. And I hate to admit, I even want it more. Not in a romantic way; I just love his playful demeanor. It feels comforting and makes me feel at ease in some strange ways.
I shake my head at the thought as I wait for a moment before the water finally boils. I turn off the stove, then carefully pour the hot water into the mug. After I'm done, I place the pot in the sink and slowly stir my coffee. I added a little more sugar to it before I tried to take a sip.
Once I was satisfied, I walked out of the kitchen and decided to join them.
They are apparently playing an UNO card now.
It's been a long time since I played one.
"Mind if I join?" They both look up, and each gives me a smile. Soap moved aside a little to make some space for me, and I seated myself in between the guys. Making a makeshift circle for the three of us.
"Nice timing. We were just about to start." Gaz said, then gave me the cards. I place my coffee on the table beside the pizza box before taking the cards from him.
A little while later, Soap's face was full of doodles. We agreed that the one who loses will get a draw on their face with spidol.
I couldn't hold my laughter as I saw how Soap's face changed every time he realized he's the one who's going to lose.
He places a +4 down, "UNO!" Then triumphantly declared as he looked at both of us that only had a few doddles on our faces.
Gaz secretly looks at me with his eyes which I acknowledge with a hum. Then he places another +4. I noticed how MacTavish's face quickly changed. It's almost hilarious to see because he's so expressive.
I had to bite my lips to hold back my laughter. "(Y/N), you don't have a plus, right?" He hesitantly asked me as he pleaded me through his eyes.
Poor guy. "Oh, sweet guy, you're just so bad at card games, no?" I sweetly replied as I slowly placed a +4 down.
"You guys are cheating!" He slammed his only card left as he glared at both of us. Well, he's not entirely wrong. But it's not like we're going to tell him that. He's just so fun to tease.
"Come on, mate. You're just suck at card games." Gaz snickers as he gets ready with his spidol. At this point, we don't care about anything anymore except making Soap lose and drawing yet another doddle on his face.
But before we can continue, Price walks in from the front door with Laswell behind him.
"It's good to see you all having fun." He greet with a fatherly smile on his face as he approached us.
"John."
"Captain."
The three of us spoke together as we looked up at him. He comes closer to me as he raises his hand to mess with my hair.
"I don't want to ruin the fun, but (Y/N), do you happen to have an empty room we can use?"
I swatted his hand away from my head as I placed my remaining cards down and got up. "You could use the basement; it was soundproof. Or if you don't trust me enough, you can use the empty house not far from here."
"Don't say such things, dear. Of course we trust you." Aunt Kate said as he stood near John. I simply shrugged as I flashed her a knowing smile. "This way then."
I turned around and began showing the way to the basement. They were silently following behind me. We turned to a corner near the stairs leading to the second floor, and there it is, the stairs leading down to the basement.
As we reached the door, I scanned my finger on the scanner, and once it recognized my fingerprint, the door slowly opened. Revealing a small makeshift movie theater, a mini bar, a game room with many arcade machines, and a white door that has a "play room" sign hanging on it.
I could hear the gasp both Soap and Gaz made. "You've been hiding this from us?" Soap said as he took a look around, amazed.
"I kind of forget I have this. And you guys never ask."
"Rich people's problems." Gaz snickered as I rolled my eyes at his remark.
I lead them to the play room, then I scan my finger once again. The door opens and reveals your type of spy room. I used to use this room back then when my father trained me. But since he passed away, I never set foot here anymore. I don't need that kind of memory to distract me from the present.
It has various screens hanging on one side of the wall with some computers, a board with a map attached to it on the other side with many notes on it, and a table in the middle of the room. Some files are scattered on the table; I guess I forgot to tell Rio to get rid of them.
As I take a look at what the files are about, I quickly snatch them all. Piling it into one stake. "I will tell Rio to add your fingerprint so you have access. If you have anything else, just tell me. I'll try to help as best as I can."
Without waiting for their replies, I grabbed the stake of files with me and walked out of the room.
Fucking hell, dad. Even after your death, you still left me with problems.
