It's been a few days since I last wrote in here, and I was looking back at the last entry, realizing that I was definitely overreacting to what Asher and Courtney were doing. Because I'm fine now. I've learned about fae a lot more from a few questions I've asked, and they're... odd, but not as scary as all of the appalachian folklore I've heard led me to believe. Although, I'm not sure if fae even have the same sort of moral compass or common sense that a human would.
Courtney treats me more like an object than even Asher does, and it's a little concerning. Like I've said before, I'm not even sure that she should be allowed around me anymore with all the shenanigans she's been putting me through- all in the name of clever fun. For instance, her 'pranks', like telling me that she put weed in some brownies when she hadn't. She's told me since then that I don't fall for placebo effects that well, and that fact makes me less fun to 'play with' than other humans she's encountered- namely, her human pet. I almost want to meet this pet of hers, and maybe I could convince Asher to set up a playdate... a playdate? What am I, five years old again? Fuck.
But Courtney's 'pet' is named Estella, and she's apparently quite a bit younger than me, 14, and Courtney essentially kidnapped her when she was only 12. I genuinely feel bad for Estella, I couldn't imagine being legitimately kidnapped from what sounds like a loving home, only to live with a mysterious faerie who enjoys messing with your literal sanity. Courtney has gaslit me just for shits and giggles countless times, so I can't even imagine what sort of hell Estella is going through.
Anyways, I'm thinking about this because Courtney is babysitting me again today and I got curious enough to ask her about her life, right now she's going on and on about how cute Estella is and how much I would love her. Apparently Estella is very meek and mild-mannered... 'trained right', as Courtney puts it,
"You would absolutely love to meet her, Teddy bear," Courtney says with a wide grin, sitting with me in her lap, as per usual, "she has short brown hair, amber eyes and she's quite a bit shorter than you, but I'm sure you could forgive her as soon as you hear her voice," she sighs contently, now braiding my hair, "oh, her voice is angelic, Teddy. Sometimes I just have her read me to sleep for the hell of it." It's oddly nice to see Courtney this excited about something, I chime in to ask a question, trying to sound interested,
"Where was she from?" Courtney's face lights up,
"Oh, she's from the southern US, just like you, sweetheart!" my eyes widen. I remember a missing person's poster from roughly two years ago that matches what I've been told about Estella's appearance,
"What was she doing when you took her?" I ask, knowing that the girl in the poster was last seen on a hiking trail with her family,
"Oh, such a sweet little thing, she was just left unsupervised, picking some of the wildflowers about a mile off the trail... appalachian trail, that is," she giggles, "such a dangerous trail for youngsters, I really hope her parents learned their lesson about leaving kids to fend for themselves." My jaw drops at how casually she can talk about ripping a family apart. I stutter a little before I manage,
"Did she have siblings?" I ask so quietly. Her eyes light up again and she finishes up the braid in my hair, tying it off,
"Yes, I believe she was the oldest of four... she had two younger brothers and a baby sister. Such a cute family too, the parents looked after them so well." I'm speechless. I feel so bad for Estella, being kidnapped from such a good, promising life. Presumed dead.
"Oh... cute..." I mumble as the timer for Courtney's cookies goes off and she sets me down, hurrying off to take them out of the oven, her hooves making satisfying clip-clop noises. My head is reeling with all the ways I could possible make Estella's life better if we were ever to hang out... I would be sensitive about all of it, of course, and offer the sympathy that she's never gotten from the inhabitants of the fae realm.
