Daddy Issues

May 3, 2018; Evening

Maya blew past her mom when she got home and locked herself in her room without a word.

"What is going on?" Katy asked Shawn who wasn't far behind. "Where have you been?"

"We need to talk," he sat down, rubbing his forehead. Shawn recounted the events of the day to his wife, who sat quietly next to him, absorbing every word. "When I got there, I found her in bed with Turner. Jonathan Turner violated and deflowered our little girl!"

Katy blinked a few times, and snorted. "First of all, he did not 'deflower' her. That ship sailed a year ago. Second, Jonathan Turner, Principal Turner?" She raised an eyebrow, with a surprised expression with just a hint of pride as she recalled the handsome man. Katy always raised her daughter to be very sex-postive and not ashamed of her body or her sexuality, but this was certainly a surprise.

Shawn just stared at his wife, "I'm going to ignore that first part, but yes that Jonathan Turner. The man who was like a father to me was in bed with our daughter!" He tried reiterating his point.

She nodded, "I heard you. Baby, I understand that the 'who' she was with is the issue, but she is 19." She frowned, "And I'm afraid this might be my fault for not taking her to therapy sooner."

'What?" Shawn stood up in utter disbelief. "How have you landed there?"

Reaching for his hand, she pulled him back down next to her. "She would have never gravitated toward an older man if we could have addressed the trauma of her father abandoning her sooner. It looks like it's a little late for that now."

"I'm her father though. I'm still here. I thought we were past this," Shawn put his face in his hands.

"Oh sugar, this stuff has a way of coming back around..." She patted his hands. "That's probably why this is so hard for you. Maya is growing up and moving on and you're not ready for that."

Shawn shook his head, "I know that, Katy. It's the fact that she's decided to move on to Jon! He's family for god's sake."

"That's probably why she feels safe with him. You made him someone she could trust, after hearing how he helped raise you and protected you. That's probably what she's attracted to,' she shrugged. "And you have to admit, he's a good looking guy for his age."

"Katy..."

She nodded, "Sorry, but you have to think about where Jon's at too. His wife left him and he's probably not feeling the best about himself. And then a young, pretty girl starts showing an interest... It's not an excuse, but you know what it feels like to be left, not wanted."

"But Maya?" He groaned, and stood up again, thinking for a long moment. "She can't see him anymore. She is still in school, his school."

"I agree, it's inappropriate while she's still in school, but what happens when she graduates in a couple months? Or when she moves out? What happens then? We can't keep her away from him forever."

It was a hard truth that he was unwilling to accept. Turner was always going to be around. He was at the Matthew's for every holiday, birthdays, hell even just to watch football games. He has brought this man into his home, around Maya.

"How long do you think this has been going on? How long has he been lusting after her?" Shawn spiraled.

Katy sighed, "Honestly, I think this is very sudden for both of them. I don't think either of them expected to end up in this situation. Up until recently she was still sneaking around with Josh."

His head whipped around in shock, "Matthews? How did I not know about this?"

She laughed, "Welcome to being a father, you're not supposed to know."
