"Ugh... what time is it?" I mumbled, rubbing the sleep from my eyes. Sunlight poured through the window, momentarily blinding me as I adjusted to the brightness.

With a deep yawn, I sat up and stretched, only to catch a whiff of my morning breath. Wrinkling my nose, I hurried to the bathroom. Once there, I went through my routine. By the time I got out, I was fully awake, feeling refreshed.

Back in my room, I grabbed my phone off the nightstand and skimmed through my notifications: a few social media alerts, random app updates, and a message from Luka, sent about ten minutes ago.

I clicked on his text, noting the time at the top of the screen, 7:28am

Luk: Rise and shine, chéri. I've got something for you.

'Again?' I felt my ears getting hot as I read the message, yet I specifically reread the nickname. 'I mean- not that I mind..'

Me: Hm? What is it?

After replying, I set my phone on my desk and started changing out of my sleepwear.

A few minutes later, freshly dressed and with breakfast quickly inhaled, I returned to my room, curiosity pulling me back to my phone. Luka had replied while I was downstairs.

Luk: You'll have to wait and see.

I groaned, feeling a mix of anticipation and impatience rise in me. I wasn't one to handle surprises well. Knowing something was coming but not knowing what felt like it stretched time itself, putting excitement just out of reach.

Me: I thought you knew me well by now, but I guess not 😔

I smirked as I hit send, knowing he'd read the sarcasm between the lines. Bantering like this made me feel more in control, like I could keep him guessing instead of letting him hold all the cards. Though, deep down, I was already eagerly awaiting whatever he had planned.

I checked the time again. It was 7:49am, and I was officially ready to go, with an unexpected sense of excitement filling my energy.

'Better get walking then..'

I dragged my headphones over my head, letting a familiar playlist fill my ears as I started walking. The air was crisp, refreshing against my skin, and the sky stretched out in a bright, cloudless blue. The golden sunlight bathed the streets of Paris, casting long shadows across the ground.

Even through the music, I could still hear the city's awakening: the muffled chatter of pedestrians, the occasional honking of cars, and the cool clatter of heels on pavement.

Cafés lined the sidewalks, with people sipping coffee and chatting, while the scent of fresh croissants and strong espresso drifted into the air. It mixed with the earthy smell of the stone streets, grounding me in the familiar bustle.

It took about 15 minutes before I reached the front of my school, and I took a deep breath leaving all the sight seeing behind. I looked around to see if Luka was anywhere to be seen, but no, not yet.

I went and checked where he usually parked his bike, but it confirmed that he hadn't arrived yet. I hummed in defeat and went inside the building towards my first class, Literature, where I'd have to wait until Luka got there to see what he was up to with those messages.

The door to my classroom was open as usual, Mrs. Royer would let students come in before classes to relax and get a good start to the mornings. She didn't seem like the kind of woman to get along with students, which she doesn't, but she's still a kind teacher despite her ways.
