A. Burr: 'I'm coming to pick you up. Have you arrived yet?'
Alexx: 'almost! thx for taking me to the dorms btw xx'
A. Burr: 'No problem. I'm glad to show the Institute to a new student.'
I stare at the message this "A. Burr" sent me. Every time he texts me, I get this weird feeling, like, he's always so cold with me and I don't know if it's because he's always like this or because he doesn't like me. But that doesn't matter, honestly. He's a senior and I'm a freshman, so I don't think I'll see him often.I look at the time on my cellphone: 11:38 a.m. The ship should arrive at 12 p.m. and that would give me enough time to put my things in order and explore the school a bit. Who knows who I'll share my dorm with. I admit that I'm kind of curious.
I turn my phone off and look up to the sea. All of a sudden, I notice something small in the distance, something on the skyline that I can't quite recognize, something... like the Statue of Liberty! I'm here! I'm finally here in New York City! I'm so happy I could scream!
The smile on my face is big and priceless, my dark brown eyes light up and my hands grip the ship's handrail with all their strength. As soon as the boat stops, I grab my suitcases and run off the deck. I look for that guy, that one A. Burr, and then I realize I have no idea what he's like.
"Alexander! Alexander Hamilton!" I hear someone yell my name in the crowd. I look around and see him: Aaron Burr, with cardboard and his name written on it (that's when I understand I'm dumber than I thought, since I could've simply just looked around). There he is, kind of around my height, with a serious face that makes him look really mature for his age, tired eyes, dark skin and well dressed. Elegantly dressed, if I may.
I run towards him and shake his hand. "Hi, are you Aaron Burr, sir? I'm Alex. It's so good to finally meet you. I'm so happy to get to see the Big Apple, I can't wait to explore it and uh, obviously study, of course, I mean, I'm not a lazy guy who doesn't want to study, I-"
He interrupts me. "Hey, can I give you some advice, kid?"
I'm visibly confused. "Uh, s-sure?" Shit, I made it sound like a question.
He smiles and grabs my shoulder. "Talk less and smile a little bit more. You have a nice smile, don't waste it on speaking."
I'm confused once again and I don't know what to say. Instead, I grab my luggage and we walk to his car.
I stay silent until we're inside the vehicle.
