Ten Years Ago:

The night was dark and foreboding as Hagrid trudged through the woods, his large frame casting a shadow over the twisted trees. He had been sent on a mysterious mission by Professor Dumbledore, one that would change the course of his life forever.

As he approached the Hollow, a sense of unease washed over him. He knew that danger lurked in the shadows, but he pressed on, driven by his duty to Dumbledore and the wizarding world.

Suddenly, he heard a faint cry echoing through the night. Hagrid's heart pounded in his chest as he followed the sound, his footsteps heavy against the forest floor. And there, nestled in a bundle of blankets, were two tiny infants - a boy and a girl, their eyes wide with fear.

Without hesitation, Hagrid scooped them up in his massive arms, cradling them close to his chest. He could feel the weight of responsibility settling on his shoulders as he gazed down at the two helpless souls.

With a determined stride, Hagrid made his way back to the motorbike he had been leant for this most important night. For fear that they might catch cold when he took to the air, Hagrid was sure to swaddle the tiny babes in some of his extra layers. The boy, who sported the beginnings of a thin lightning scar just off center of his forehead, he strapped securely in a sling over his front. The girl, who had seemed to get more of the backing from the powerful spell used to try and kill the pair (and sported a scar down her entire left arm and across her tiny chest), he placed inside of one of his gigantic pockets that he remembered studding that same day with the softest of phoenix feathers while caring for the bird.

Once he was sure the children were safely in their stowing spots, he revved the motor bike's engine and began to take to the skies to get to the next destination, where he was meant to meet up with Professor Dumbledor to hand young Harry off to his new home.

The motor bike revved loudly as Hagrid finally touched it down to the paved road of Privet Drive. And, the silence of the night took over as soon as he was able to shut the beastly engine off. "Professor Dumbledore, Sir." Hagrid greeted respectfully s he took up his ridding goggles from his eyes. "Professor McGonagall." he added on before dismounting his bike with two one-year-olds, who were both sound asleep and dreaming pleasantly, he hoped.

"No problems I trust, Hagrid." Dumbledor asked in a way that seemed more like a statement. "No sir." Hagrid breathed out, still trying to get his breath back after flying so quickly for such an important journey. "The little tykes fell asleep just as we was flying o'er Bristol........Try not to wake 'em." Hagrid offered as he slowly opened the sling that held the sleeping Harry Potter. "There ya go." He said in a bad attempt at a whisper once he had freed the boy from the sling.

Dumbledor took baby Harry into his arms gently while McGonagall kept a carful hand on the babe should he slip of wiggle so. As they walked McGonagall was attempting to change Dumbledore's mind about leaving Harry with is aunt and uncle. But Hagrid, the gentle half giant that he was, was too busy trying to keep from crying at the prospect of not seeing the lad until he was older.

"Hagrid, Where's the girl?" Professor McGonagall asked in ernest as soon as they had managed to quiet the tears and sobs he had offered after seeing baby Harry on that front step with just a letter and a blanket. Hagrid was gentle as he transferred the little girl from his deep pillowy pocket to the now empty sling, who did little more than stir during this whole ordeal.

"Are we to leave this poor one here as well?" Asked McGonagall of Dumbledor. "It hardly seems a just action seeing as they are such nasty muggles." "Don't be daft, my dear professor." Dumbledor jested. he did love so how grumpy she became when accused of something as egregious as being daft. "The news traveling around mentions only Harry's survival. It's as if the entire wizarding world assumes Harlow was lost to the massive flash of Voldemort's curse. I'd quite like to keep it that way. And, if the twins stay together, it is much more likely that her survival will soon be the news. She would be much safer, and less likely to suffer the fame of which she is destined, if she is kept away from Harry until the time comes."

Dumbledore busied himself with unstocking more of his lemon candies. He had just popped about her sickeningly sweet morsel into his mouth when he decided to continue. "And, the best way to secure that is by giving her into the charge of the commonwealth until she finds a wizarding family all her own. Where she can grow up under a magical roof. One child with our kind. One with the muggles, as was the contingency plan."

When he heard that Harlow Potter, the Boy Who Lived's twin sister, was to be left at a wizarding orphanage, Hagrid's resolve hardened. He knew what he had to do. "Please, Professor," he begged, his voice thick with emotion. "Let me care for the little 'un. I'll give 'er all the love n protection she needs, I swear it."

"Oh Albus, do at least consider it. This child disserves better than the overcrowded orphanages." McGonagall pleaded as she looked at the sleeping girl that seemed to be trying to nestle further into the mass that was Hagrid's warm body. "This war may be over now, but those lost have left behind many a magical child. We would be doing Harlow, and the headmistress of the orphanage, a great disservice if we simply dropped her off there."

McGonagall could tell that her argument was at least moving dumbledor on an emotional level. But, she knew too well how difficult it could be for Hagrid to keep his focus on things when he got excited. So right there, on Privet drive darkened by the put-outer, she made a solemn vow. Not just with herself, but with both Hagrid and Dumbledor.

"Minerva, you know I trust Hagrid implicitly," Dumbledore began in a whisper, "But the responsibility of caring for a child is immense. Are you certain about this?"

McGonagall nodded, her resolve unwavering. "Albus, Harlow Potter deserves a chance at a proper upbringing, not the cold walls of an orphanage. Hagrid loves her dearly, but he lacks the experience and finesse that raising a child requires. I propose that if Hagrid struggles, I will step in. I'll ensure Harlow receives the love and guidance she needs, acting as the maternal figure she'll require growing up."

Dumbledore regarded her for a moment, his expression thoughtful. "You're willing to take on such a responsibility, Minerva? This is no small feat."

"I am," McGonagall affirmed. "Harlow is not just any child; she is the sister of the Boy Who Lived, and her safety and well-being are paramount. With your blessing, I will do everything in my power to ensure she thrives."

Dumbledore regarded Hagrid with a solemn expression, his eyes twinkling with wisdom. After a moment of contemplation, he nodded. "Very well, Hagrid," he said softly. "You have shown yourself to be a true guardian to these children. I trust that you will take good care of young Harlow."

And with those words, Hagrid's heart soared. He had been given a chance at fatherhood, a chance to give Harlow the love and care she deserved.
