A dome shaped building with golden pillars held it up. The sides were blue, and patterned with gold intricate constellations, and stars. The roof was completely clear, giving way to the clear sky, with dotted lines left for the match-maker to match. There were gold rounded shelves spreading along the border of the inside of the building, which was booked out with various star studying supplies. Leaving the center of the room which had a dark blue star shaped compass expanding majority of the simple gold flooring, empty with the exception of a large telescope that pointed up to the roof.
The Planetarium.
And my favorite place.
The sky was foggy, but I still had the faint dotting's of the mimicking the constellation that were drawn up on the roof. I grabbed one of my notebooks I had hidden in a secret compartment under one of the rounded shelves, a place only I had figured out. The last time I had come here was during the end of Fall, a sleepless night where I had snuck out, and accidentally dozed off there till' noon. The whole palace had been in an uproar that day and I had barely snuck back in with the help of Yasmin, disguising my disappearance, as a simple stroll in the gardens.
I walked over to the telescope and heaved up the heavy machine, tinkering the buttons, and levers until I got a proper view of the dots on the roof. If I couldn't go outside and use a telescope might as well pretend to. I drew on the dotted constellations on the paper, still looking up through the telescope. They workers would shift the dots on the roof, making a whole new constellation in turn. It happened every week or two, and I hadn't been here for two seasons. It didn't stop me from connecting the dots though, and eventually drawing in a constellation. It was a Hydra. It looked like a jagged line at first glance, but upon closer inspection you could see the head, and the serpents body. It was one of the largest constellations so it was easy to spot when the sky was clear. I sighed in contentment, my soothing ritual complete as my eye lids started to droop. It was time to hit the hay.
Ok, not the legit hay, the one that horses eat.
I stashed away my notebook, and pulled my cloak tight around myself, and walked into the dark, foggy sky. The wind had picked up, and sent goosebumps trailing through me-- I looked up towards the sky, in hopes of finding the constellation somewhere, but it didn't show. I dropped my head, and started to walk back to my chambers. I had left from the back gates of the gardens, which led to central hall, where my room was located. I quickly strode down the vast hill, and in no time reached the black, barred gates in. I quietly, and quickly unlatched the gates, entering the garden. After turning around, and locking the gates, I started speed walking down the cobblestone path; It wouldn't look good if anyone found me wandering in the wee hours of dawn, alone in my nightgown. The chilly air sent goosebumps along my bare skin-- the air smelled of rose, tulips, and gods know how many other flowers. I rounded a corner, I was almost there. All I had to do was now take another right turn, and I'd be in the clear.
At least I thought so.
I suddenly froze in the middle of my tracks, seized by the sound of heavy footsteps, and clanking armor. I had no where to hide, the guards were probably switching shifts for the night, and I had completely forgotten about that. I was literally in the middle of the pathway, there was only a vast plain of benches and fountains, and nowhere to hide.
What should I do? What should I do? What should I do? What should I do-! My panicked stream of thoughts were cut off, when I felt a sharp tug on my arm, pulling me backwards. Next thing I know there's shrubbery all around me, and a hand clamping my mouth shut, muffling my screams.
"Calm down princess," a soft voice whispered into my ear, and gods when I recognized that annoying bastard, I jabbed him hard with my elbow, and was pleased to hear a pained grunt in return. I saw the guards walk past us, without even looking our way, and breathed a sigh of relief when they had passed. I was rewarded with a creeping blush trailing up my neck. None of us had moved, and our bodies were pressed together, and for the record I was wearing my nightgown. There was only a thin sheen of fabric separating my naked body from him. I quickly wriggled out of his grasp, and pulled my shawl tighter around myself as I took in the bastard prince, which again sent a humiliating hue of blush up my face. I was glad it was dark.
His face was sculpted by the moonlight with fine lines of pink tinted porcelain. His sharp cheekbones sent shadows down his cheeks, as he looked at me with those irreputable mismatched stars in his eyes. He wore a loose white shirt unbuttoned all the way through, which revealed a pale and well muscled chest. To think I had my back to that the whole time.
"Enjoying the view princess?" His question snapped me back to reality, he spotted me looking at his chest. Couldn't blame me now could he? It was right there.
"What are you doing in the middle of the night wandering around like that. This isn't Eridanus-- and here I thought you would have learned some palace etiquette, but it seems you Eridians, even the royals are no better than stray dogs," I reputed.
"Tsk. And I thought you would've been grateful to me for saving your undeserving self from humiliation."
"I never asked you to do so."
"All the more reason," he smirked.
I took a deep breath. I should be grateful to him-- yes he did safe my 'undeserving self' from humiliation, but thanking him of all people. Even I have my pride. We stood there silently, that infuriating smirk growing wider by the second, I couldn't fire back a retort, but still it felt so wrong.
"Well? Where's my thank you?"
"I-, well-," I cleared my throat.
"Thank-," the word would not slip past my lips.
"Continue, continue," even the prince was on the verge of laughing. Bastard.
"Thank Y-," I squeezed my eyes shut. "Thank you!" I exclaimed. The prince looked at my face, and broke out into a laughing fit. He was wheezing.
And I was mortified.
"What? You asked for it!"
"My oh my, why this is a tale to be told. The princess of Fae couldn't muster a 'Thank you'? How lovely!" He breathed out in between laughs.
"You will not tell this tale! Understood?" it would've been better to get spotted by the guards in the middle of the night, and start some nasty scandal. Much better than this.
"Why shouldn't I?" he argued, running a hand through his wavy brown locks.
"Because I said so. Now answer my question; what are you doing here dressed like that?" I gave him a once over.
"Your highness cannot be complaining. You were just enjoying this lovely view a while ago. What happened?" he chuckled.
"Bastard."
"Why thank you for the compliment, princess,"
"Whatever, I am going back to my chambers. Have an awful, and terrible rest of the night one of which I hope you have horrific nightmares," I turned around and started to speed walk back to my rooms, I was a good long way ahead when I realized the prince was right beside me.
"Please tell me you're joking," I groaned.
"Princess are you delusional? I haven't even said anything," he shook his head innocently.
"I am not delusional, why are you following me this time around?"
"Because my destination is on the same path of yours."
"And where is your destination?"
"Wherever you're magnificent royal persona takes us, please lead the way."
I was too tired to even argue.
