I pounded on Jungwon's door, hoping he was there. I didn't know what had come over me to want to apologize, much less run all the way here. As I waited for him to open up, I rested my hands on my knees, trying to catch my breath. God, I must be insane.
Finally, the door creaked open, revealing Jungwon standing there with an expression of surprise and confusion that quickly shifted to annoyance. "What do you want, Lee?"
Swallowing my pride, which felt like choking down a bitter pill, I straightened up and looked him in the eyes. "I... um... read the article."
Jungwon's face turned red with embarrassment as he glanced away. "Yeah, so? Come to shove it in my face? Well, whatever you have to say, you can shove it up your—"
"I'm sorry."
His eyes widened in shock. "What did you just say?"
"I said I'm sorry, Yang. That's a horrible thing to read about yourself. And... instead of asking you what was wrong earlier, I just made it worse. No one's allowed to make you feel shitty but me. So, I'm sorry."
Jungwon rolled his eyes, but I caught a small smile tugging at his lips. "Yeah, you're so sweet. But that article is just stupid." He let out a breath, leaning against the doorway. "And I guess I'm sorry too. I didn't mean to get angry with you. For once, it wasn't your fault."
I sighed with relief. At least that was cleared up. After a beat of silence, he spoke again, "Um, do you want to come in?"
I nodded slightly, feeling just a little bit nervous, though I wasn't entirely sure why. "I did run all the way here to apologize, and your bed's comfortable, so that would be great."
Jungwon's eyes widened in disbelief. "No way... the great Lee Hae-Young ran? And for me, no less? You totally like me."
I rolled my eyes and pushed past him. "I still hate you. Don't you dare think otherwise."
As I entered his room, I was hit with the familiar scent of his cologne mixed with the faint smell of fresh laundry. His room was surprisingly tidy for a guy, and I found myself automatically gravitating toward his bed, flopping down on it with a sigh. He joined me, sitting on the edge, his presence comforting in an oddly irritating way.
"So, we've got that rugby game coming up," Jungwon said, breaking the silence. "Which is the perfect opportunity for me to keep my end of the deal."
I turned my head to look at him, confusion written across my face. "Yeonjun will be there, stupid. If you're there with me, it'll drive him crazy."
I nodded, a small smile playing on my lips. "Right. I hope this works, or else I've voluntarily spent time with you for no reason."
Jungwon rolled his eyes at me, unimpressed. "Just remember, we have to make it look real," he said, his tone serious. "If Yeonjun doesn't buy it, this whole plan goes down the drain."
"Don't worry, Yang. I can be very convincing."
"Yeah, I hope you can be. But I also know you tend to overact. Try not to look too desperate," he said with a smirk.
