A knock on the family house door at 5pm, I grab my phone not expecting anyone at this time. I open up front door camera to see two police officers standing at the door. I wonder why there here. Are they looking for Marcus. I look over to where the blonde is gaming on the tv.
"Who's at the door babe?" Marcus asks
"The Cops" I say startling myself saying it outload.
The second the word cop leaves my mouth Marcus scrambles up and trips over the back of the couch, trying to get a look at the door camera. I show him. Marcus runs around the corner and hides just in earshot. Some boyfriend he is, he's meant to be the one protecting me, Fucking Pussy. I walk over to the front door and open it. Sliding my body to stop the officers from coming in. If Marcus really did do anything I don't want him getting locked up again.
"Can I help you officers?" I ask with a bucket load of sarcasm.
"Do you mind if we come in, Ms Harrelson?" The tall male on the right asks. Whilst the lady on the left seems to be looking at me with pitying eyes, it ignites something in me. I look her up and down quickly, I could take her. I turn my attention back to the guy talking.
"No thanks, whatever it is I can take it right here and get on with my night", I say a little annoyed. Marcus does always say I have the temperament of a firecracker.
"Well your mother and father, they got in a car crash on freeway 82. They have both died, no bodies were retrieved." He looks at me with sore eyes, waiting for a dramatic breakdown. I must remain strong, I haven't broken the no crying in public yet not in 7 years. My eyes well up, the facts hitting me live a wave sent by the gods to drown all the sin. My throat is closing up, my eyes going black around the edges. Marcus comes from behind me and hugs me. He looks up at the officers and says " I heard it all, thanks officers, I've got it from here" He hug man overs me out of the door frame and closes the door, once the police have turned there backs. He turns back to me and hugs me, slowly guiding me to the bedroom to laydown. I fall onto the bed, and Marcus tucks me in. He kisses my head and walks out of the room, knowing I don't like to cry in front of anyone. I'm in shock. I loved my Dad. My mother was the reason for most of my childhood trauma, so I'm not really sad. She always used the 'but I birthed you' quote. Did you think I wanted to be born. No. I had no choice. I lie there, my tears soaking into my bed until the roof turns to black and swallows me whole.

Running. The air is still. Its like it knows there's going to be an explosion. Its eerie, with no noise but the quiet crackle to flame burning up the paint of an Aston martin. I run over to the side of the highway. Hopping over the barrier. Running over to my motorbike. Xavier is behind me jumping on his own bike. We start the engine and start to ride into the bush, kicking up the red dust. We get away. Blending into the night. Our engines breaking the silence for only a moment, until the car explodes, sending a dizzying static.
