CHAPTER 2

I couldn't sleep well thinking about dad. This results me for being very late for a meeting with my client and ended up losing that client. It was such a shame as the client was offering to pay me for her so called "pastry party" that would profit me a lot.

"Ellie, are you okay? You seem a bit off today."

"Yes, I'm fine. It just that I'm a bit tired." I lay on the couch in the office.

"That is why I think that you need to take days off. You know, take a break from this stressful life?" Nancy sat beside, took off my shoes and starts to massages both of my feet.

"Nancy, you know I have tons of works to do right? If I'm not here, who else would take care of this bakery?"

"Hello? Your bff is here? You know that I'm always here to help you. Besides, I don't ask you to take long breaks. Just a day or two is enough. Go for sauna, massages or go for facial treatments? You've always wanted to do it."

Suddenly an idea arises.

"You know what Nancy? I think I need a week or maybe two." I stood up from the couch.

"Hey, hey. Keep it easy girl. What are you going to do for weeks?"

"I'm going to New York!" I walked straight out from the bakery and left Nancy confused behind me.

"Hey Ellie! Ellie!...you forgot your shoes...."

"What are you doing?" Jason opened my door.

"I'm packing my bags."

"Where are you going?"

"New York."

"For what?"

"Hmm.." I hesitated to tell him the reason why I wanted to go for New York so suddenly.

"For? Hello? You can't just suddenly go for New York without any reason. Does Gabriel follow you?"

"Oh shit. I forgot about him." I stopped packing and sat on my bed.

"What?" Jason laughed. "Why are you like this?"

"Jason, if I tell something. Something really shocking, you wouldn't die do you?"

"What are you talking?" Jason sat beside me and put his arm across my shoulder.

"You know..I just don't know if I should tell you this.."

"Just tell me, don't worry. I will be fine. Trust me, I had some shocking like really shocking news before." He gave a slight smile.

"Hmmm, okay. How do I start? Uhhh..you know uhhh."

"Calm down young lady. What's wrong? You broke up with Gabriel?"

"No, not that. Never. It just that the reason why I suddenly want to go to New York is because..umm..uhh..I want to find someone."

"And..? Who is that someone?"

"Ummm. Dad. Yes, dad. I want to find dad."

"What are you talking about?" He gave me weird stare.

"Yes, our dad is still alive Jason. He is."

"How do you know? His body is never found."

"Yet. Never found yet. Oh Jason, come on you need to believe me. I know where is our dad."

"Where?"

"New York."

"Stop Ellie. Stop talking nonsense okay. I've had enough. We had enough. And now you're saying that dad is alive? Come on, he had been missing for years Ellie. The police even said that he is no longer with us okay. We need to face it. Face the truth that dad and..Mackenzie is gone." He stood up and I can see his eyes sparkled with tears.

I know deep inside Jason is worried that I might not accept the reality and might end up like him. I know that he tried so hard before to accept that his wife and dad are no longer with us but I need to know the truth. The real truth. I need to know why a man who is so similar looking like dad is in New York, and why that lady from the blog said that he is her dad. I just want to figure out the truth whether he is my dad or not. There's so much questions lingering inside me and I want the answer.
