Arjun’s Point of View

I was deeply engrossed in preparing for an important case in my office when my phone rang. The news on the other end shattered my world. "Mr. Singhania, your wife, Kaira, has been in a terrible car accident. She’s in the ICU." Panic surged through me as I bolted from my office, not caring about the papers strewn across my desk. My heart pounded as I drove recklessly to the hospital. Upon arrival, I saw my mother, Nandini, and Kaira’s family, all looking devastated.

"I need to see her," I demanded, my voice shaking with desperation.

A doctor stepped forward. "I’m sorry, but she needs immediate surgery. Please sign these documents.

"I felt a wave of helplessness wash over me as I signed the papers. We waited for hours, each second an eternity. I was exhausted, my mind plagued by the fear of losing her. Every cherished moment we shared replayed in my mind, filling me with an aching sense of dread.

Flashback: The First Meeting

I had decided to visit the orphanage with pastries to celebrate landing my new job. The kids there always brought me a sense of joy and fulfillment. As I arrived, I saw a woman with her back turned to me, playing blindfolded with the children. She was trying to catch them, while they mischievously led her in the wrong direction.

But then I noticed one child standing dangerously close to the stairs, making noises to mislead her. She followed the sound, oblivious to the danger. My heart raced as I realized she was about to step off the edge. I sprinted towards her, grabbing her hand just in time and pulling her to safety. She fell against my chest, and for a moment, our hearts beat wildly together.

She removed her blindfold and looked up at me, her eyes wide with surprise. She was stunningly beautiful, with an innocence that captivated me instantly. We were lost in each other’s eyes, a moment that felt like eternity.

The caretakers rushed over, checking if we were okay. She thanked me with a radiant smile, and I nodded, still in a daze. Suddenly, it began to rain. The children were ecstatic, running around and enjoying the downpour. She too, lifted her face to the sky, closing her eyes and smiling blissfully as the rain soaked her.

I watched her, utterly mesmerized. Her white dress clung to her, becoming slightly transparent. Noticing some men staring at her, I quickly stepped in front of her, shielding her from their view. "Everyone, let’s go inside before we all catch a cold," I called out authoritatively.

The caretakers guided the children indoors, but she remained, her eyes still closed, savoring the rain. I took off my jacket and wrapped it around her shoulders. She opened her eyes, confused by my action.

"Your clothes are wet and... see-through," I explained softly.

Realization dawned on her, and she clutched the jacket tightly, wrapping it around herself. She saw the lingering stares of some men, and gratefully accepted my gesture. "We should go inside," I suggested.

She nodded, and we followed the others. Inside, the caretakers handed us towels to dry off. She came over, thanking me again for saving her. She offered to return my jacket, but I stopped her.

"Keep it. You need it. You can return it the next time you come," I said with a smile.

She nodded gratefully, and as she walked away, I couldn’t help but feel a deep connection with her. Little did I know that this moment would mark the beginning of a beautiful journey together.

"I’ve never seen you here before. Are you new?" I asked curiously.

Kaira smiled and shook her head. "No, I come here regularly, mostly during the week. But since I couldn’t come for the past few weeks, I came at the first opportunity."

"And what do you do for a living?" I asked further."I’m a software developer and currently doing an internship at Sam-Tech," Kaira replied.

I raised my eyebrows in surprise. "Sam-Tech? That’s impressive. I’m a lawyer and just received a job offer from Malhotra & Partners today. If I’m not mistaken, our companies are barely five minutes apart in Bangalore, right?"

"Yes, exactly," Kaira confirmed with a smile. I beamed at this realization. "That means we could run into each other more often," I said happily.

"Certainly," Kaira responded, her smile widening. We continued talking for a while, sharing stories and laughing together. I told Kaira about my passion for spending time with the children at the orphanage, and she shared her own experiences and reasons for wanting to help the children.

"But enough about me. What brought you here?" I asked.

Kaira told me about her own difficult childhood and how she became who she is today thanks to the support of others. "I want to give back to the children and give them the same opportunities I had," she explained.

I was impressed by her selflessness and determination. I felt that I had met someone truly special. "I’m really looking forward to seeing you more often, Kaira," I said, and I meant it from the bottom of my heart.

The Present

Sitting in the sterile waiting room, every tick of the clock felt like a hammer striking my heart. I buried my face in my hands, trying to keep the flood of emotions at bay. Nandini placed a comforting hand on my shoulder, but the fear gnawed at my insides.

"She’s strong, Arjun. Kaira will pull through," my mother said, her voice steady despite the tears in her eyes.

I nodded, trying to find comfort in her words. But the fear of losing Kaira was paralyzing. Images of our life together flashed before my eyes – our wedding day, the mornings we spent sipping coffee, the nights we spent sharing our dreams and fears.

"She’s the love of my life, Mom. I can’t lose her," I whispered, my voice breaking.

"You won’t," she replied firmly. "We have to believe in her strength.

"I glanced at Kaira’s parents. They were huddled together, drawing strength from each other. Her father, usually so strong and stoic, looked like a broken man, his eyes red from crying. Her mother clung to him, her body trembling with silent sobs.

"Arjun," her father called softly, beckoning me over. "Thank you for being here for Kaira. She needs you."

"I need her more," I replied, my voice barely a whisper.

The doctor’s footsteps echoed in the hallway, pulling me from my memories. He approached us, his expression grave. My heart pounded as I waited for his words.

"Mr. Singhania, the surgery was successful. Kaira is stable, but the next 24 hours are critical.

"Relief washed over me, but the fear remained. I thanked the doctor, my voice choked with emotion. "Can I see her?"

"Yes, but only for a few minutes. She needs to rest.

"I nodded, following him to Kaira’s room. She lay there, pale and fragile, tubes and wires connected to her. I took her hand, feeling the warmth of her skin. "I’m here, Kaira," I whispered. "I’m not going anywhere.

"As I watched her, I made a silent vow. I would stay by her side, no matter what. I would love her, protect her, and cherish her. Because she was my everything, and I couldn’t imagine a life without her.
