Two weeks had passed since that heated phone call with Kenji, and the distance between you seemed to have grown even wider. You sat in your assigned dressing room, the soft hum of the television in the background.
The screen showed Kenji in yet another game, and it was evident that something was off. He looked exhausted, his movements sluggish and uncoordinated. You watched as he lost another match, a pang of concern tightening your chest.
Your mind drifted to how he had acted during your last conversation versus how things used to be between you. The warmth, the playfulness, the sense of connection—it all seemed like a distant memory. But then again, what were you expecting when you broke up 2 years ago? he wasn't the same man you fell in love with.
Your reverie was interrupted by a knock on the door. It was time for your interview.
The interview started pleasantly enough, but soon the questions took a turn towards Kenji...it's been like this ever since his arrival.
You forced a polite smile, trying to mask your discomfort. "The Ken Sato and I are good friends, but I'm focused on my career right now."
The interviewer pressed on, not satisfied with the vague answer. "But surely, there must be something more? We all know your past history..."
Memories of your last conversation flashed through your mind, and you struggled to maintain your composure. "Kenji and I had complicated history, but right now, I'm looking for someone new."
"What!? You heard it, guys! Our favorite reporter has finally stepped out of the field!" The interviewer, Miss Masaki Fushiguro, reacted loudly, making the live audience go wild.
You chuckled lightly, trying to keep things lighthearted. "Well, It's been long since I started looking for a partner and im taking things slow."
The audience buzzed with excitement, and Miss Masaki leaned back in her chair, clearly enjoying the moment. "So a large part of the audience was focused on your development as a writer turned reporter, we'd liked you to tell your story on how your studies abroad helped you.."
"O-oh! sure, It was really difficult back then to get opportunities being a writer with big dreams but-"
The show must go on.
