**Prologue: The princess of the isle**

It started out on the Isle of the Lost, where the desolate streets were paved with broken dreams and whispered curses. Through the murky fog, a girl with ginger hair and a puffy emerald green gown strode with purpose. A green carriage followed behind her, its wheels creaking under the weight of despair.

"My name is Ruby. Ruby West Wicked. Yes, I'm the daughter of the Wicked Witch of the West."

Twenty years ago, Belle married the Beast. Instead of a honeymoon, they united all the kingdoms, creating the United States of Auradon. They rounded up all the villains, sidekicks, and all-around horrible people, including me and my mother.

Ruby and the carriage continued moving as some of the Isle peasants started whispering. "It's the princess," one of them scowled. "Why do she and her mother get fresh food and get to wash regularly?"

Ruby paused, signaling for the carriage to stop. She glared at the person who had spoken and walked over, grabbing them by the ear. "You said what? Say it again," she demanded, then smirked. "You will be burned at the stake at midnight. Until then, you'll be locked up in the Yellow Brick Road." Which is her mothers castle She dragged the person, throwing them into the carriage.

"I'm also the princess of the Isle," Ruby thought, as the carriage moved on. "When the villains first got trapped here, the Isle was a regular village until my mother crowned herself queen. She stole people's profits and riches, leaving them with scraps and making them poor. Even Auradon started to view my mother as the queen of the Isle. Some people kept their wealth, but only if they obeyed my mother and served her. Those people were Jafar, Cruella de Vil, the Evil Queen, and Maleficent."

As Ruby and the carriage reached the Yellow Brick Road, Mal, Maleficent's daughter, appeared. Her eyes glowed green as she bumped into Ruby. Ruby rolled her eyes and walked into the castle. Behind her, the person from the crowd was dragged out of the carriage by someone in a black jacket and work outfit, wearing a black sun hat, sunglasses, and with green skin – the Wicked Witch of the West herself. She threw the person to the guards. "Get rid of this dreadful creature," she commanded. The guards dragged the person away to the dungeon.

Ruby walked to the throne room, the gathering place of her mother's villain "servants": Jafar, Cruella de Vil, the Evil Queen, and Maleficent. Evie and the Evil Queen were admiring themselves in a mirror, Carlos was pedicuring Cruella's feet, and Jay was examining his latest thefts with Jafar. Ruby sat on the smaller throne next to the bigger one, her mother's. None of them paid attention to her.

Then her mother burst through the door, slamming it open. That's when the story of Ruby truly began.
