"YOU'RE LATE." Tomoe FROWNS AS he taps his watch.
"I'm sorry," I say, settling into my office chair and looking into my laptop's camera. "I ran all the way back, but I took Y/n lunch, and I didn't want to rush—" I stop when I see Tomoe and Akira giving each other looks at the conference table in our Maine office.
Nowadays, it's rare for them to be in the same room during our meetings since Akira works from home most days, and Tomoe spends a lot of time at our New York office. While it's only an hour's plane ride into the city, going to the headquarters in Maine has become an inconvenient detour for them both.
"You had lunch with Y/n?" Akira asks as he adjusts his glasses.
"Yeah, of course I did. She's my wife." I'll never tire of calling her that. "You and Mia go out during the day all the time, and you're not even married yet," I taunt him.
He gives me a sideways glance in response. If it were his call, they'd get married today, but she wants to wait until she's officially adopted Lola before they exchange their wedding vows.
"At least Mia wants to be my wife," he says with a smirk.
I shoot him an annoyed glare. "Y/n has bigger issues to deal with, like her ex-fiancé showing up at her office, begging her to take him back."
When I went to take her lunch this afternoon, her office door was open. Curiosity got the best of me when I saw her talking to another man, and rage surged through me when I realized it was Naoya. The cheating bastard had the nerve to beg Y/n to take him back, then lashed out when she stood her ground. He betrayed Y/n's trust, and I was more than happy to help put him in his place.
"Wait, are you serious?" Akira asks. "That happened today?"
"Yeah. I walked in just as she was telling him she got married. I told him to get out of her office, among other things." I shrug a shoulder.
"What did you do, Satoru?" Tomoe looks alarmed. "Please tell me you're not going to be slapped with assault charges."
"No, it's not as bad as it sounds," I assure him. "He works for Itodori & Fushigoru, and I may have hinted at being friends with Megumi. So, could you make a call and have Naoya fired?" I ask like it's the simplest favor in the world.
Harrison rubs his temples, letting out an exasperated sigh. "Let me get this straight. You want me to call up Megumi Fushigoru, the guy who has a reputation for making grown men cry on the stand, and ask him for a favor? He doesn't do things for free."
"Do it for Y/n," I encourage him. "Her douchebag ex cheated on her and deserves what's coming to him. I'm sure Megumi would gladly channel his pent-up frustration into seeking revenge for a cheater and a liar."
"Fine," Tomoe concedes with a resigned sigh. "But when Megumi calls to cash in his favor, it's on you to handle it."
"Sure, no problem." I wave him off.
