PART 1: The Beginning
Peter was waiting on his date to arrive. They had set this date up about a week ago, and he was so very excited to see this girl. She was late, however. He looked down at his watch and started to get worried. That's when he saw her. Charlotte. She came into the restaurant looking ruffled and like she had been in a rush, her cheeks rosy from the cold outside and snow in her long brown hair. He smiled instantly and waved her over.
It took a second for her to notice, then she came over. "I'm so sorry I'm late my cat had to go to the vet and my mom wanted me to pick up my brother and-"
"Hey, it's ok I don't mind." He assured her, the smile never leaving his face. She sat down. She was a rather clumsy and spacy girl with ADHD. She was a freshman in college and often was late to her classes and other events, and most people thought she was stupid. However, she did have the highest grade in all her classes. Peter stared at her. He knew from this moment that he loved her and he never wanted her to leave him. He couldn't explain the feeling, he just knew it in his blood.
"Anyway, how was your day?" Charlotte asked. She was tapping her fingers on the table gently like she always did. "It was good I was hanging out with my friends and playing games." He said casually. "Oo! What games do you play?" She was clearly very interested in every word he said, staring him down with her beautiful green-gray eyes. He chuckled "Red dead redemption, And Batman Arkham Nights." He couldn't stop admiring her. She had long curly brown hair and green-gray eyes with pale skin and freckles all over her and rosy cheeks
She tilted her head a little. "I only play pokemon unite, maybe i should play those though" She smiled at him. "Yeah, maybe I could show you. I think you would like them." He said as a waiter approached the table. "I would love that"
The waiter came over, holding a notebook and a pen. "Hello, I'm David. I'll be your waiter today." He said as he looked at both of them. His lingered a little too long on Charlotte. Peter cleared his throat, noticing how he looked at her "Yes. could I get an Iced tea please unsweet?" He said, trying to not seem annoyed.
"Oo, can I get a lemonade?" Charlotte asked. "Why of course darling." The waiter said, completely ignoring Peter and walking away. Charlotte didn't notice this, she just read the menu, humming softly under her breath. Peter cleared his throat. "So Charlotte, what are you going to get?" He asked, trying to start a conversation.
"Probably a burger. My parents never let me eat them as a kid,"Charlotte responded. Peter felt surprised, but hid this. Who doesn't let their kid eat hamburgers?? "Oh, well they are really good." He said smiling. She smiled back. "What music do you like?" she asked, completely changing the conversation abruptly. He wasn't expecting it, but he went along with it. "Oh. umm kinda everything I'm not picky." He said, trying to think. "I like musicals" She responded, resting her head on
her hands.
"Really? I do too ! What's your favorite?" He said surprised. "Ummm.. Heathers and Mean Girls" She responded after taking a moment to think. He felt happiness well up inside of him. "It's my dream to be JD." He said, smiling even more. "I tried out for Veronica in highschool, but they put me in Martha's role" She commented. His jaw dropped. "They didn't have it at my highschool." He kept the envy out of his tone, but it leaked out just a little. Before they could continue the conversation David came back with Charlotte's lemonade, and a noticeable lack of iced tea.
Charlotte looked at her drink for a moment, looking up at David. "You forgot Peter's drink" she said in a rather quiet tone as if she was a little scared to point it out. She's shy Peter thought, then looked up at David. "Yeah you did, I wanted an unsweet iced tea." He said, trying not to be annoyed. "You can have my lemonade if u want" Charlotte offered, looking like she felt guilty.
"I'm so sorry I was so distracted by this darling's eyes." David said nonchalantly. "Is there something in my eye?"Charlotte asked, rubbing her eyes. She clearly didn't have a very keen sense for flirting. Peter was shocked at the waiter's words. Who the hell acts like this? What is he, a predator? His expression hardened, "Umm excuse me can you go get my drink and a different waiter please and thank you."
"Awww why I don't want to miss out on serving a pretty girl like her." David said a whine in his voice, as if he was a small child being told by a parent to clean his room. "...You think I'm pretty?" Charlotte stared at him for a long moment. Peter started to get visibly angry, this guy clearly didn't know how to back off. Charlotte paused, thinking, as if looking for a response, then smiled. "I like your ears, they're very big. It's unique." She said, clearly not realizing how insulting her words were. David's jaw dropped and his face went red. He covered his ears and walked away.
"What did I do wrong???" Charlotte asked, looking genuinely worried. "It's ok honey." Peter said, not realizing he called her honey. She looked at him in surprise. "Oh- I'm so sorry." he started to stutter. "It's ok, it's just no ones ever called me that before" She blushed, looking flustered. "So you.. don't mind?" Peter asked. She shrugged. "I don't really care," her stomach rumbled and she looked embarrassed.
"Ok."Peter wasn't really sure how to respond. but soon after that another waiter came to the table. "Hello, I'm your waiter Tyler. Here's your unsweet tea sir." He stated. He was younger than David, probably only 15 or 16 at the most. He had curly strawberry blond hair and brown eyes that paired well with his tan skin and freckles.
"Honey, why don't you order first." Peter prompted, smiling. "Can I have a burger with fries?" She asked in a soft tone. "Ok got it and for you sir." The waiter said, looking at Peter. Peter was a little relieved that he didn't have any side comments to make. David's attitude towards Charlotte clearly didn't reside in his coworkers.
"Ummmm... let's see.. can I have the Alfredo please." He asked excitedly. "Alright,
that will be right out." Tyler said, walking away.
Charlotte and Peter talked about small things, like favorite colors, and places until their waiter brought them their food. Tyler grinned as he set the plates down. "Here's your food! If you have any questions feel free to ask, and enjoy your date!" He winked at Peter and then left. Peter smiled, glad that someone had his side. He watched Charlotte for a long moment. She took her first bite of her burger and her eyes went wide with awe. "It's good right? He said, smiling at her. Her reaction was so adorable, it made him feel warm inside. She nodded, eating it happily. He watched her as he ate, realizing something as he stared at her. This was the girl he wanted to marry.
