🔞 Chapter 31

As Jungkook walks into the precinct, he becomes nervous. His memories of the whispers and stares fill his mind. When he walks in, he sees the new Police Captain waiting for him.

"Detective Jeon, how are you?" The new captain asks as he walks up to Jungkook.

"I am good," Jungkook mutters and bows to the captain. He grits his teeth when the whispers start up; however, he is suddenly reminded of the day he met Taehyung, so warmth and peace quickly fill him.

"Get back to work." The captain barks and glares at the whispering officers and detectives. "Detective Jeon, I have assigned you to a new partner."

"That partner is just going to end up dead like all of the others." A detective scowls as he looks at Jungkook with anger and disgust.

"Who said that I'm going to die?" Yoongi's voice fills the room as he walks up behind Jungkook. Jungkook instantly smiles when Yoongi protectively wraps his arm around his shoulder. 

"I know that you have been doing undercover work for many years, so it will take time for you to adapt to everyday detective work. That is why I assigned you to be Detective Min's partner, despite Detective Min being known for not working with a partner." The captain explains as he smiles at Jungkook and motions for him to go with him to his office.

"Thank you, Captain Lee," Jungkook mutters with relief and follows the captain.

"You two will build Team 1 together. The past Team 1 was fired when the previous Captain was arrested." Captain Lee explains and hands Jungkook and Yoongi a file with the new graduates. "Pick from there."

Yoongi and Jungkook spend the next few hours in the captain's office as they go through the files of the new graduates. When they see ones that they like, they flag them.

"Choi Yeonjun seems like the best candidate." Yoongi hums as he goes over the file.

"I agree." Jungkook nods in agreement and opens a new file.

While Jungkook and Yoongi build their team, Taehyung sits on his balcony with a lit cigarette dangling from his lips and a frown on his face as he furiously types away. Every now and then, Taehyung grumbles to himself about his character acting out. 

When the morning breeze blows over his balcony, Taehyung glances at Yoongi's balcony and laughs because Jimin is sitting on the railing, wearing only one of Yoongi's shirts. "Now I know where you were all night."

"Stop being a menace." Jimin scowls and stretches.

"Aren't you going to be late to your classes?" Taehyung asks, stamping his cigarette out in the ashtray.

"I only have afternoon classes today," Jimin responds, smiling up at the morning sky. 

When Taehyung focuses on his book, he hears the laughter of children in the empty apartment to his left. He smiles when the balcony doors are swung open, and children run out.

"Sanghee! Sangeun! Be careful!" The children's mother shouts as they play on the balcony.

"Yes, Eomma!" The children shout and then look over at Taehyung.

Taehyung quickly smiles and waves at the children, causing them to giggle with happiness and return his wave. A cute family is so much better than that creep who was living there.

That evening, as Taehyung writes, he hears the front door open, so he quickly jumps up from his desk and runs to the door. When he sees his boyfriend taking his shoes off, Taehyung rushes to him and hugs him. "How was work? Did it go well? Do you already have a case? How are you feeling?"
