Fading Light (New story)

Prologue

The lights flickered as the storm raged around me. A loud crash of thunder shook the building as the lights went out. Everyone screamed. The school was in utter darkness. I moved slowly through the rows of books in the library, not making a sound. Everything was in shades of blue. I walked out of the library and down the hallway. I knew exactly where I was going. The hallway was pitch black but I didn’t stop. I could see. Footsteps sounded behind me as Adam and Blake fell into step behind me.

They knew to follow the sounds of my footsteps even if they couldn’t see. Lightning lit up the room to my right for an instant then it was gone. We kept going until I stopped and took the door to my right.

Two girls stood in front of a girl who was crying into her knees. They turned around as they heard the footsteps. Another flash of lightning came through the window. They saw us and their eyes widened before they ran out of the room. My eyes went back to the crying girl on the floor. The storm became more fierce as her sobs became louder. I slowly walked over and started to comfort her.

The rain and thunder came to a stop as she rubbed her eyes and looked up at me. Everything was quiet like nothing had happened. The sun came out from behind the clouds. I smiled back at Adam and Blake. They knew what I was smiling about.

We had found the fourth member of our group. Now only one more to go.
