The Hardworking Student

"Hope."

A 21-year-old college student, Rafael Garcia thought at the back of his mind. "Is there really hope?"

"Garcia! Wake up!" A voice echoed. It was in the middle of class. Rafael's mind wandered off. "Ahh, I almost forgot I'm in the middle of class."

He was studying at one of the prestigious colleges in Metropolitan Manila, aiming to be a historian.

"I don't know why, but it sure feels boring" He mused, "I learned this countless times back in my younger days"

The bell rang. He went off to lunch, where he met Mateo Salvador. "Hey Rafael! Come here!"

"Hi bestie, how's your class? Mine's a little boring..." he said to Mateo

"You're being you, always calling 'that' subject a boring one, while I'm still here barely passing the tests earlier," Mateo said to Rafael. "Hardworking to be a Historian eh?"

"Learning history has its cause, but I want to see the hidden tales behind the obvious." Rafael then lets off a bite of the porkchop he's eating.

Rafael is 5'4", and has black hair, a light-brown skin tone, a round face, and narrow brown eyes. He usually wears light, comfy clothes, and is easy to put on. He's handsome and passionate, embracing other people, yet isn't famous. Mateo, on the other hand, is 5'7" and has natural dark-brown hair. He also has a light-brown skin tone, a round face, and narrow brown eyes, but usually wears heavy clothing, jackets, and denim pants. He's studying Computer Science, and their room is too cold for his taste.

"Oh by the way, how's 'Miss Salvador'?" Rafael asks Mateo.

"Her? I miss her, she's busy these days, we haven't seen each other like 3 months or more" Mateo said. "Maria Trinidad is soon to be a doctor, right?"

"Oh yeah, right... I forgot..."

Maria Trinidad is Mateo's girlfriend. Met 5 years ago during high school, and they became lovers 2 years later. She has a white skin tone, Long wavy hair, and normal brown eyes. She's caring yet hardworking too, like Rafael.

"How about you Raffy? When will you have a girlfriend?" Mateo then asks Rafael. He answered abruptly

"No thanks."

"Hey, I know you want it, right?" Mateo looks at Rafael's eyes.

"I'm more interested in histories, not romance." Rafael said as he was uninterested in love, "Oh yeah, my next subject's coming in 10 minutes, better eat fast."

"Lucky for me my next class is in 30 minutes" Mateo winked at Rafael. After which, the two ate before parting ways for the next classes.

--Timeskip, 5 pm--

The bell rang, dismissal time.

Rafael left the English building and was about to leave the gates when suddenly, someone pats him.

"Let's go to a mall!" It was Mateo, energetic as usual. "I contact Maria to come over and eat!"

"Heh, I'll go to the antique shop by then, but sure let me accompany you towards it," Rafael said, as they called a transpo to the mall.

The two boarded a Jeep towards a mall familiar to them. While riding, Mateo asks Rafael "Well, since you usually go to the Antique shop, what will you buy today?"

"I don't know, I just buy what my eyes like. Do you want to accompany me?" Rafael said he has a collection of old coins and notes, as well as postcards and stamps of the past. Fitting for his passion for history.
