Emma stood in the doorway of their small apartment, her eyes filled with tears. She clutched a suitcase in one hand, her heart heavy with the weight of her decision. Jake stood across from her, his face a mask of confusion and pain.
Emma, please don't do this, Jake pleaded, his voice cracking. "We can work through this. We always have.
Emma shook her head, her tears spilling over. Jake, I can't keep doing this. I need to focus on my writing, and every time we fight, it just... it takes everything out of me.
Jake took a step closer, reaching out to her. But I love you, Emma. We can figure it out together. Don't you love me?
Emma's resolve wavered, but she took a deep breath and steadied herself. I do love you, Jake. But I need to find myself again. I've lost who I am in this relationship, and I need to be alone to figure that out.
Jake's hand dropped to his side, his shoulders slumping in defeat. So this is it? You're just going to walk away?
Emma nodded, her voice barely above a whisper. I'm sorry, Jake. I hope one day you can understand.
With that, she turned and walked out the door, leaving Jake standing alone in the empty apartment, the echo of her footsteps the only sound in the silence.
This was so painful to write y'all I swear 😭
