Y/N's Pov:

"Are you coming or not?" Lexi asked, her voice piercing through the ambient chatter of the bustling classroom. It felt like all eyes were on me, even though my gaze was fixed on the wooden patterned tabletop, my fingers tracing the intricate designs as I faltered under the weight of their stares. Lexi and Nina basically framed me, leaning forward with eager anticipation. The question hung in the air, distinct yet suffocating. Behind me stood my bodyguards-Taehyung, Jungkook, and Jimin-quietly radiating their usual protective energy, though I could sense Jungkook's rolling eyes without even looking.

I took a deep breath, trying to quell the whirlwind of conflicting emotions swirling inside my head. The anticipation from Lexi and Nina was palpable, as if they were waiting for a magician's grand reveal. I licked my lower lip, pressing them together for a moment before finally blurting out, "No."

The silence that followed felt thunderous. Disappointment washed over Lexi and Nina, draining the color from their faces. Lexi threw her hands up in exasperation as though I had just rejected the most important offer of my life. "This 'no' is not an option for you!" she declared, her eyes gleaming with the fierce determination of a warrior. "Do you not see that NYX is incomplete without its 'Y'? You're our Y, our missing piece!"

My heart sank at the thought of letting them down, especially Lexi, who had orchestrated this entire plan for her monthly birthday party. "NYX" stood for "Nina," "Y/N," and "Lexi"-a name Nina had conjured from the depths of Greek mythology, representing the goddess of night and all its mystery. I could see the rationale behind it; our adventures and late-night escapades certainly embodied the essence of youth and rebellion. Still, how could I abandon my brother's emotional turmoil just to join their celebration?

"Please, Y/N," Lexi urged, her voice softening. "You know you can't let him keep you from living your life. You have to confront him anyway. This is a perfect opportunity!" She had a way of framing things that made them seem far more approachable.

Her optimism gnawed at me. I could feel a little part of myself wanting to give in. After all, I missed dancing on the dancefloor with my friends, the way they would sway with reckless abandon as laughter filled the night. But I shook my head, pressing my lips together into a thin line, hoping they could read the disappointment radiating from my expression. "You don't understand, Lexi. You don't know what it's like when the one person who means the most to you stops talking to you altogether. I can't just leave him hanging. This anger is real."

"And you think sitting here sulking is going to make it better?" Nina chimed in, her voice tinged with concern. "You need to resolve things. Stop avoiding him." She paused, looking at me intently, "What if you talked to him after going home? Please, Y/N. Just try."

Their shared zeal was overwhelming. For a hot moment, optimism threatened to drown me; but then the reality of my brother's disappointment crested back, suffocating my enthusiasm. I exhaled in resignation. "I'll try," I relented with a sigh, though the uncertainty clung to me like a shadow. "I'll try to convince Namjoon. But don't get your hopes up! He's been pretty quiet."

"Not getting your hopes up is exactly what I'm doing!" Lexi chimed, her enthusiasm unwavering. I smiled despite my uncertainty.

As we talked, the wheels in my mind started turning. I could devise a plan-an act of defiance mixed with compassion. I could apologize for whatever misguided choices I had made that led to the fight. Perhaps I could bake his favorite cookies or something?
