Ali Hakim was never much of a romantic. Sure, he had wooed many women, but he was never in love with them. Ado Annie Carnes wasn't any different. She thought she was, though. "You do want to marry me, don't you?"
"Oh, Ado An- what did you say?"
"I said 'you do want to marry me, don't you?' What did you say?"
"I didn't say nothing!"
"Whoa, Suzanna!" A distant voice yelped. "Yoohoo, Ado Annie! I'm back!"
"Oh, foot. Just when-" Annie exclaimed under her breath. "Hello, Will!"
"That's Will Parker," Annie introduced. "Promise me you won't fight him?"
"Why fight?" The peddler responded. "I've never met the man." As he eyed the man, he saw just why Annie wanted to marry him.
