Long ago, in the Dreamtime, there was a beautiful Sun Woman named Walu. Walu's golden light brought warmth and life to the land, but she was very shy and preferred to keep to herself. Each day, she would climb into the sky, bringing daylight to the world, and each night, she would hide away, leaving the world in darkness. One day, Walu noticed that the animals were having trouble finding their way in the dark. The little **wallabies** (small kangaroos) and **koalas** would bump into things, and the **numbats** (small marsupials) and **bandicoots** (small nocturnal marsupials) struggled to find food.
Feeling sorry for the animals, Walu decided to help. She gathered her magical **waratah** (a type of red flower) and sprinkled the seeds across the night sky. As the seeds scattered, they turned into twinkling stars, creating a beautiful **burruguu** (night) that lit up the world.
The animals were amazed and grateful. Now, with the stars shining brightly, they could see and find their way in the dark. The wallabies could hop safely, the koalas could climb their trees, and the numbat and bandicoots could search for food without any trouble.
But Walu wasn't done yet. She wanted to create something special to guide the animals through the night. She took a handful of her brightest stars and placed them in a line, creating the **Miligal** (Milky Way). This glowing path in the sky became a guide for all the animals, helping them travel safely from one place to another.
From that day on, the night sky was never dark again. The stars and the Miligal shone brightly, bringing light and beauty to the burruguu. The animals were happy and safe, and they always remembered the kind and thoughtful Walu, the Sun Woman, who cared for them.
And so, children, as you look up at the night sky and see the stars and the Miligal, remember Walu and her gift to the animals. Know that even in the darkest times, there is always a light to guide you.
