**Kate's POV**

The heat of the Texas sun was still palpable as I stepped into the UTSA gym. It was the first day of the basketball camp, and I was excited to meet everyone. As I scanned the courts, my eyes were drawn to a girl running drills with a group of kids. She had short, dark hair and was about an inch shorter than me. There was a fierce focus in her eyes as she moved, guiding the kids through defensive techniques.

I found myself intrigued by her. There was something magnetic about the way she carried herself, confident but not arrogant. As the camp director approached, I tried not to stare too obviously.

"Kate, this is Alex," the director introduced us. "She's been a great help here."

"Hi, I'm Kate," I said, extending my hand with a smile.

Alex shook my hand firmly, her grip confident. "Nice to meet you. So, you're here to help out, huh?"

"Yeah," I replied. "Just here to offer some tips and maybe learn a thing or two myself."

There was a brief pause as Alex seemed to assess me, a thoughtful look in her eyes. She didn't seem to recognize me, which was a nice change. We quickly fell into a conversation about the camp, basketball, and coaching. It felt easy, natural. She didn't pry into my background, and I appreciated that. It was refreshing to just be Kate, not "the basketball player from Iowa."

**Alex's POV**

The camp was buzzing with energy, and I was in my element. Helping kids improve their game was something I loved, and it gave me a chance to work on my own skills too. When the camp director introduced me to Kate, I felt a flicker of recognition, but I couldn't place her. She seemed familiar, but I couldn't figure out why.

"Hi, I'm Kate," she said, her voice friendly and warm.

"Nice to meet you," I responded, shaking her hand. I asked if she was here to coach, and her response surprised me. She seemed modest, just another person here to help out. There was something about her that intrigued me, but I decided not to push it.

As the day went on, we ended up working together on several drills. Kate was not only skilled but also patient with the kids. It was clear she knew her stuff, yet she was humble, never making a big deal out of it. I liked that about her.

On the second day, after another round of intense drills, we sat down on the bleachers, taking a moment to rest and watch the kids play. I found myself enjoying Kate's company more than I expected. She was funny, smart, and seemed genuinely interested in the camp and the kids.

As the day wrapped up and the kids started heading home, I felt a sudden urge to keep the conversation going. I hesitated for a moment, then took a deep breath.

"Hey, I know it's still early in the week, but if you're not too tired, do you want to grab a bite to eat? There's this great taco place nearby."

Kate's eyes lit up, and she grinned. "Tacos sound perfect. I'd love to."

Relief washed over me, and I couldn't help but smile back. As we headed out of the gym together, I felt a growing excitement. There was something special about Kate, something I couldn't quite put into words yet. But I knew I wanted to find out more, to spend more time with her. And this was just the beginning.
