Sweets, an integral part of the daily indulgence, is made up of milk and milk related products. Varieties of sweets are sold across the city during night time. Similarly the people of Puri are well acquainted with dairy products and they consume it on a daily basis during dinner.

Generally the sweets are made with buffalo milk and cheese, Khoya and Sara (milk cream) are used as the second raw material. But the taste, flavour, making and mixing process have always held its own significance.

Odisha as a state with a rich culture and heritage, it is a treasure trove of good food associated with festivities. The offering of sweets, or prasad, is a form of devotion and thanksgiving to the gods and goddesses. Sweets are considered to be pure and divine, and their offering is believed to please the deities and earn their blessings. But Morever not all the sweets prepared in Puri are offered to god. The Sara Papudi / Malai puri  ( thick layer of cream )  , with a filling of Khoya inside, is deep fried in ghee on a slow flame and later dipped in sugar syrup and taken out to cool down

It is soft and crispy in texture.It is one of the famous mahaprasad items of lord Jagannath . Made up of a dough of Atta, sugar, black cardamom, and edible camphor, which is later deep fried in ghee till it gets dark brown in colour and dipped in sugar syrup until it is coated hard around it.
