Ameliana's Pov

the night air was quiet in mystic falls, as it carried a quiet hum. the remnants of a warm summer day settling into an eerie stillness. streetlights flickered along the empty road, casting long disoriented shadows over the cracked pavement. i tightened my jacket around myself, an unshakeable feeling crawling up my spine as i walked.

me and my sister snuck out to a party wanting to try something different for our sophomore year, but i chickened out and ditched. it wasn't often that i wandered alone this late, but something had drawn me outside tonight away from everyone—a restless energy i couldn't quite but my finger on it. this town always felt different after dark, as if the secrets that were buried underneath its charming facade waiting to resurface.

the distant sounds of rustling leaves made me pause. my breath hitched as i glanced over my shoulder. nothing. just they swaying branches of the old oak trees lining the road. but something felt off.

i wasn't alone.

a presence lingered in the air, thick and suffocating as if the darkness itself had come alive. my pulse quickened, but i forced my steps to remain steady. then, i saw him.

leaning against a lamppost with the ease of someone who belonged in the night, he stood watching me. his dark eyes gleamed under the dim glow, sharp and unreadable. a smirk tugged at his thin lips, like he knew something i didn't.

i should have kept walking. should have pretended i didn't notice him, but i did. there was something undeniable about him. something that made it impossible to look away.

" out a little late, aren't you?" his voice cut through the silence, smooth as silk carrying a slight edge of amusement.

i hesitated before answering. " could say the same about you."

his smirk deepened. he pushed himself off the lamppost, his movements slow, deliberate. " fair enough. but i don't think you're out here because you want to be."

i narrowed my eyes. " and you think you know why im out here?"

" i know a lot of things." he took another step forward, his gaze locking onto mine. his had the brightest blue eyes yet there was something dark , something intense swirling behind the deep blue i was seeing. something about his stare was almost hypnotic.
