We were tucked away in a secluded booth in the corner of the bar. The man settled in, glancing around casually while I sat stiffly across from him.
"I'm Ellias," His damn blue eyes locked onto mine again, smiling expectantly.
I cleared my throat. "Kayla."He nodded slowly, then raised a hand to catch the attention of a passing waitress. She approached quickly, a polite smile on her face. "Hi, welcome to Bar Heften. How can I help you?"
Elias took a moment before replying with a charming smile. "I'll have a martini, please."The waitress nodded and turned to me. "And for you?"
"Uh, just a fireball, please," I said, trying to keep my voice steady.
She smiled again and nodded. "I'll be back shortly."
As she walked away, I turned back to Elias. He had his hands clasped together, resting under his chin, and his eyes were studying me intently.
"What's your story?" he asked, his gaze penetrating as he tried to read me.I blinked, taken aback. "What?"
"Your story." He repeated. What's your past?"The waitress returned with our drinks, setting them down with a smile. I took her fireball shot and sipped it slowly, feeling the warmth spread through my chest. Elias watched me intently, his martini untouched.
I sighed, running a hand through my hair. "I just needed to get out, and clear my head. Things have been... difficult lately."
Elias nodded, lostening intently. I looked at him, searching his eyes for any sign of judgment, but found none. Instead, I saw a reflection of my own pain and confusion.
"What about you?" I asked, genuinely curious. "What's your story?"
He paused for a second, taking a long sip of his martini. "How should I put this?" Ellias put his drink down on the table, looking back at me.
"I've been looking for something to fill my void. I move around a lot, can't stay in one place."
I wanted to ask another question but didn't. I just drank the rest of my fireball, feeling a tingling sensation in my chest. As the evening wore on, Elias's questions grew more personal. He asked about my family, my dreams, and my fears. I, emboldened by the alcohol and Elias's attentive demeanor, shared more than I usually would.
By the end of the night, it was 1 am, and people were filing out of the bar. I stood up, fixed up my hair, and stepped out of the booth.
"It's late, I should go."
Ellias stood up as well, tucking his phone into his pocket.
I watched as he brushed himself off, looking back at me with a smile. "Okay. I'll see you soon, Kayla."
I waved goodbye as I walked out of the Bar, down the street from where I came. I walked quickly in the dark, my path lightly illuminated by the dim streetlights. I had to be careful of where I was going since I didn't have my phone on me. Stupid. I shivered as a harsh gush of wind slapped my bare arms. Why didn't I think to bring a fucking jacket?
Before I knew it, I was back outside my house. I stepped up the creaky steps and opened the door. Of course, I forgot to even lock it. I stepped inside the home, locking the door behind me. I glanced around my kitchen and living room and grimaced at the mess. I can do it tomorrow. I followed the hallway into my bedroom and quickly stripped of my outside clothes, dropping them on the floor behind me as I opened the wardrobe, fishing another black tee shirt and shorts. I pulled them on and went into the bathroom to wash my face and brush my teeth. After I was done I made my way back to the bedroom and melted into the bed, pulling the covers up.
