1:30 pm. I'm currently at the airport, waiting for my bestfriend to arrive from Japan.
It's been weeks since the break-up. I realized that, it's really not that easy to move on. In fact, I don't have any courage to go outside. Almost everything I see outside, reminds me of him, the memories we've created together.
Today, I got no choice. I have to fetch Shane from the airport or else she will be upset. After all, she's my bestfriend since childhood.
"Shane! It's been ages! I missed you!"
"I know Charlotte. I missed you too. How's life?"
"Well, I just went out of my house today."
"You mean, you haven't gone outside since the break-up?"
"Yup. I know it's weird, especially for a girl like me who's always struck with wanderlust. It's just that I can't bear the pain I feel everytime I see something that reminds me of him."
"Perks of having a first cut. You'll get through it. I know. You just need some unwinding. How 'bout some shopping galore tonight?"
"Perhaps that will do." Nice idea, I thought. I smiled at her, feeling grateful for seeing her again.
Shane Kelly Morgan is the heir of Universal Morgan Corporation. Their company produces the finest milk in this world. I know. It's a bit odd, for me as a not-so-wealthy girl to be bestfriends with her.
We've met in a park near my mother's workplace, somewhere in New York. I was playing alone in the swing when I saw her, crying because she lost her doll. The doll was stolen by a mean-looking big fat guy and he's making fun of it by messing her hair and ripping her dress. I'm way too feeble to pick a fight with that boy, but I just can't stand it, seeing this girl crying. So I did. I got shocked because when I punched him, he cried instead of punching me back. There, I figured out that he's gay. I grabbed the doll and scolded him, then I gave it to Shane. She invited me to her house afterwards and since then, we became bestfriends. More like sisters, in fact.
We stayed in Shane's house for the entire afternoon since I have no company in our house today. Mom and Dad is at work and they know where I am right now. We watched movies, ate the chocolates and noodles she bought and did some chatting.
"So where are going to study?"
"Harvard. Since I passed the scholarship exam."
"That's great Charlotte! Too bad I'll be studying in Japan. We can only see each other once or twice a year. So are you going to pursue your dream course?"
"Business Management? Yup!" I said it with proudness.
"Oh I'm so proud of you! Do your best! Or as they say in Japan, Ganbatte! This will be a great headstart to your new life, your life without Kent."
"Yeah, I guess." I sighed.
"You might be able to meet some hotties there! Tell me if you have, okay?" She giggled.
I laughed. As if it's that easy. "Okay." I smiled. "But I actually made a promise to myself."
"What promise?"
"That I'll finish my studies first before entering a relationship."
"I see how determined you are. I envy you."
I chuckled. Why would a girl like her envy me?
"I'm serious Charlotte. You have so many reasons why you should do good in school. You're so motivated."
"All you need is someone who inspires you. My family and you inspire me. That's why I'm doing this. I'm doing this for the people I love."
"Including me, awwww. You're sweet. Thanks." She smiled.
"I love you sissy." I hugged her.
"I love you too. Shall we go shopping?"
"Alright!"
We spent the rest of the day at the mall. At that moment, I started to feel alright again, having Shane here to cheer me up.
