During the interview of Karen Davila to Claudine on Rico's sudden death in the year 2002.
"If nagkaroon ka ng isang araw halimbawa knowing what you know now, na mawawala siya ganito kaaga sa buhay mo. What is one thing that you would what to tell him or settle with him?
Claudine: We settled everything we had to settle you know.. It was really fix. He fixed everything before he left.
Although yun lang, hindi mo siya na hug ng matagal. I didn't get to kiss him or hug him and tell him na I LOVE YOU hindi ko nagawa. (crying)
I wouldn't be able to hold him anymore and tell him "Everything's Okay". Nobody's gonna tell me "You be strong because everything's gonna be okay and I'm here I'm gonna protect you" Walang ganon na. (Crying)

CLAUDINE BARRETTO, RICO YAN SAD AND CONTROVERSIAL LOVE STORY
It was on the set of "Dahil Mahal Na Mahal Kita" that Claudine Barretto and Rico Yan discovered their feelings for each other. They started dating and in time, fell in love, both were very popular 25 years ago. Wags predicted the relationship wouldn't last. They said angelic Rico deserved a pious, young woman and a visionary, which they said Claudine was not. Claudine Barretto started as an actress during her childhood days while Rico Yan when he was selected as batch one of popular Star Circle Artist Management of ABS-CBN headed by Johnny Manahan.
CIaudine and Rico love story was very famous at that time. Fans don’t even think that it is anyone’s fault, the pressure from their work had put more strain into their relationships. Both of them were busy, they were both hitting theirs peaks in showbiz. They were both partnered with other people, and with the showbiz stories running about on anyone of them having an affair, of course, it would impact them really hard–jealousy would definitely kick in. They both said they didn’t really have big fights during their relationship until one big fight had came in to their relationship.
Both Rico and Claudine were lovey dovey during their “Got To Believe” promotions, even up to the time of their coming months – 4th year anniversary. Fans didn’t think you could fake that, it was real emotions and their love for each other were oozing out. Fans could actually see and feel it. Fandoms didn’t want to believe that a 3rd party was the reason. Entertainment writers thought it probably was more career related, their busy schedules or jealousy kicked in after the bad stories about them started.
Claudine and Rico lost weights during those time they were struggling with their problems, just imagine how much they’re hurting. Fans still believe that they would have patched things up and got back together after that fight they had as couple, if Rico didn’t die, nature took over, then Claudine had a melt down. Fans thought that also triggered her anger on what had happened and the intensive pain she felt when Rico died.
Claudine said Rico broke his promise again–it was pertaining to Rico dying leaving her alone to fight for what was to come in her life in the future. Fans thought Claudine was expecting a reconciliation, but maybe Rico was thinking of setting her free to let her figure out what she wanted in life since she was still young, only 22 at that time. Claudine said in an interview that they were planning to get married maybe in 2003.
Claudine has been saying that she was happy, maybe she was at peace, but it has never been the same, not until she’ll meet somebody who loves her as much as how Rico loves her. She will always be feeling that same void every time.
Even up to the present time, she doesn’t have that glow, and their die hard fans believe that she really misses him for real. Even the hardest of the heart will melt with the intensive love Rico is offering. Claudine knows that Rico’s love for her is different, it was irreplaceable–it was unconditional love, but she can’t do anything about it now since he is gone. Claudine definitely has to move on.
On the last night before Rico's death, Dominic Ochoa was with him, an actor and very close friend of Rico. Ochoa revealed to everyone that his best friend was crying the whole night while drinking liquors with him and his girlfriend. Rico cried and kept on telling Ochoa how much he loved Claudine and could retire showbizness just to marry Claudine and build a family with her thus he will do everything just to win back Claudine's heart and into his life. But sady in the morning on that day Rico passed away in his hotel room. Rico Yan wrote his last letter to Claudine in bold text,
"I’LL STILL BE TRUE TO MY WORD, THAT MY ONLY GOAL FOR YOU, IS TO YOU SPREAD YOUR WINGS AND FLY, WHEN YOU DOES, I TOLD YOU NOT TO LOOK BACK AND I’LL BE HAPPY FOR YOU" –RICO YAN
