02 ━ some fun (??) facts about my fics

there was no way of writing that title without making it sound self-absorbed 😭 sorry about that. anyway, i was deleting some old plans/drafts of mine, and came across initial plans for some characters and fics that i'd completely forgotten about. mainly things like old names, face claims or different story titles. i thought it might be fun to share these and see how it could have been!

1. cath delaney, from my stranger things fic, was originally named sara. i changed this when i got into the show and realised hopper's daughter was already named sarah. now i couldn't imagine her named as anything but cath!! (also: her very early-days face claim was a young sophie nélisse)

2. similarly, daphne delaney was originally going to be played by lucy boynton. again, it feels weird to re-visit this casting!

3. thomas delaney was originally named eugene, he was played by james van der beek, he had a whole different personality and he was going to die in the battle of starcourt. i don't even care if this is a spoiler for underworld, but i can tell you right now that scene is NOT happening anymore. i don't think i would ever have the heart to do that. and martha was originally named christine!

4. winifred erstwhile was originally going to be played by jessie buckley. in fact, seeing her in mourning colours in the war & peace miniseries was what originally inspired me to make my OC a widow who was grieving, and then it evolved from there very quickly to the winifred you know now. jack lowden was in that miniseries too as nikolai rostov, often in (russian) soldier's uniform, so take a wild guess where the inspiration for joseph came from.

(also fun fact: luke thompson and jessie buckley were in the same year at RADA, so seeing them in a romeo + juliet clip playing the titular characters blew my mind even though ellise was already winifred when i found it!)

5. this is probably more obvious but madeline (winifred's sister) has been re-cast multiple times. originally she was lily collins, then just before she made her first appearance i changed her to emma watson, and then most recently after the end of act one i settled on lily james. the latter is definitely the casting i like the most...

6. all i can say about vesper's story (both iron and the books that have/will follow) were a LOT darker in some places... glad i have toned them down. also more characters were originally meant to be killed off through the whole series, i.e. between iron and the events of mockingjay. not telling you who. i've decreased the number since then. either way, brace yourselves when we get to it.

7. for the longest time, emrys hertz was played by charlie heaton, the change to anthony boyle was very last minute.

8. from eden was originally named this is not a test, the title got changed very last minute before posting it! and in a very early draft it was titled long live.

9. the earliest inspiration for francesca vestri's character was from linda ronstadt, then that turned into a women-led band featuring monica barbaro (the consistent one), lily james and luz pavon as face claims. it very quickly changed again, around the time i discovered heart's music, and now here we are with solstice!

10. ryan kazansky in my top gun fic was originally played by will poulter.

i have no idea if this was interesting at all... but this book isn't meant to be very sophisticated anyway lmao
