The weekend went by uneventfully as we moved into the new house. It was a beautiful American styled home with a nice soft white coat of paint, four bedrooms, and a spacious front porch that I already knew mother was going to decorate in her vision.

It was the fourth house on the end of the street and we had yet to make an appearance with most of our neighbors. We never really were never the type to show up with a plate of cookies just to be nosy, and it seems like the residents of this neighborhood felt the same. All except for one, that is.

Apparently our parents didn't know they moved us right next to the town's very own chief of police and his daughter. There was nothing really bad to say about Charlie Swan. He was just a middle aged, mustache man trying to make the best out of living and doing his job in a quiet town. It might've been why he showed up at our doostep sunday morning, welcomimg us to the neighborhood. Outside of his work, it didn't seem like he had many friends to talk to. The same applied for his daughter, Isabella.

Which is why mama forced us out of our usual "dont bother us and we wont bother you'' comfort zone and sent dad and I over with a rack if ribs. Honsetly, there wasnt much to say about the encounter because there wasn't much said. At least, not between me and Isabella. Though, our dads seemed to bond over their shared view on "the best way marinate meat'' and their favorite kind of beers. The two hit it off and talked about everything near and far in the dad category, while me and Isabella seem to only talk when we were answering each others questions in a single Sentence or less.

'It was like an exchange between a brick and a stick.'

I could've lived another hundred years without a conversation with the likes of the younger girl. Mama would've had better luck sending Layla over here to brood in silence. The swan girl was only a year older when it came to appearance and they had the same level of painful awkwardness when it came to meeting new people. I didn't really care for the experience, but now i knew at least one person i would be going to school with. Which i was Getting ready for, as it was monday. Our first day.

And im already pissed off!

We're not running late but god if we didn't act like it. our family likes to make good impressions and punctuality was pretty high on the list, amongst other things. I tapped into our shared connection and weaved into my sibling's separate bond.
