Chapter 28: Sudden Disappearance

The clock had just struck 12 in the middle of the night, Cielo's condo was filled with utter silence as the two Rivera sisters is fast asleep on one of the guest room that they shared. Cielo on the other hand, was wide awake, she couldn't feel any drowsiness despite having two glasses of wine in a row already.

She decided to take a breather, she went to the rooftop of the building. The cold air of the midnight breeze immediately caress the flesh of her bare face, she stood near the railings as she took out a piece of cigarette and light it up with her customized lighter, it is a silver plated piece of steel with ‘Madrigal’ inscribed in it.

She suck in a handful of smoke and puff it out, the smoke immediately blending into the air. Cielo roam her eyes around the city lights and the tall buildings underneath, while her mind is somewhere else.

A couple of minutes have passed, only the base of the cigarette stick got left, Cielo drop it onto the floor and step on it, putting out the fire. With one last sigh leaving her mouth, she trudge down back to her unit, as she was about to turn the corner she caught a glance of someone in front of the door to her place. The person turn around and Cielo was quick to hide, she's just meters away from her unit and she peer into the direction of the unknown person.
She doesn't know why she's hiding at all. As she peer through the corner, her eyes widened upon recognizing the man in front of her door.

It was one of the guy she encountered earlier that day.

‘Anong ginagawa niya dito? Paano niya nalaman kung saan ako nakatira? At bakit mag isa lang siya?’ madaming katanungan ang sumagi sa isip ni Cielo, ngunit agad niya itong isinantabi at unang isipin ang kasalukuyang suliranin.

Cielo tiptoe towards the man, when she was behind him she elbow the man's nape just enough for the latter to lose consciousness as his body fell right onto the floor, a gadget falling with him as well. As she turns the knob, it immediately clicked and the door got unlocked.

Siguro kung nahuli pa siya ng ilang sandali bago dumating ay tuluyan nang napasok ang kaniyang unit. Cielo put herself on guard as she traverse the inside of her condo unit, she immediately went towards her office room to grab her burner phone and dialed the only number that's saved on it.

“Hawk, I apologize for calling you this late but I need you to book me three tickets for New Zealand, ASAP.” Cielo speak through the phone when the line immediately got connected.

“Got it, Boss.” and the person on the other line replied just as immediately, and the call ended.

Tinungo ni Cielo ang silid kung saan natutulog ang dalawang magkapatid, hindi na siya nag abala kumatok at agad na pumasok sa loob. She gently shook Maki's shoulder to wake the latter up, Maki being the light sleeper that she is, immediately flatter her eyes slightly open. Agad namang kumunot ang noo nito nang makita si Cielo.

“Shh, wake your sister up and don't make a noise. I think nasundan nila tayo dito.” Cielo whisper towards the latter. Maki can smell the older girl's breath with a hint of smoke and a little mint in it, but she ignores it.

Upon hearing what the latter had just muttered, Maki immediately sat up and wake Aphrodite up. Whispering  to her older sister what Cielo had said to her. The two without compliance follow Cielo behind as they tiptoed out of the guest room.

Naabutan nila ang lalaking walang malay sa labas ng condo unit ni Cielo pagkalabas nila. Maki recognized the man in an instant, her head wander around looking for someone.

“Mag-isa lang siya?” tanong ni Maki kay Cielo at agad na napailing ang dalaga.

“Hindi ko alam, pero sigurado akong hindi 'yan nag iisa. Let's go.” tugon naman ni Cielo at tinungo nila ang hagdanan imbis na ang elevator, sa pag-aakalang baka naka-abang roon ang isa sa mga tauhan pa ni Silvestre Nuevez.
